MILINET: Response To "The U.S. Military: Still the Best by Far"

=================================

The best for how long? They have nicely skirted many of the
main issues that
effect the military today. Their comments are more about them
than the real,
not imagined, problems in the military. I wouldn't want my
legacy to be
anything but shiny either. Like the young girl said, "I'm only
a little
pregnant." But, little problems come to term. So go the
problems many of us
are imagining now.

The long and the short of it is that you either, "pay me now or
pay me
later." Later always costs more. The thing I hear resoundingly
is the
concern that many have about where the military is going. Quite
possibly,
anyone that raises a red flag is considered a non informed,
disgruntled, or
out of touch complainer. Some may be. I doubt seriously though
that the
number of complaints we have been seeing by not only retired
military, but
active duty personnel can be classified as just sour grapes or
barracks
gossip. Also, the exodus of military personnel from the ranks
to civilian
pursuits is more than just about back to back tours of duty,
short equipment
parts, or money problems. These problems have always been there
to some
degree, but they largely had little effect because military
personnel felt
good about their service and about where they were going. Now
no one knows
what will be the next social engineered crisis whether it be
women on
submarines, in the Green Berets, or more don't tell policies to
mention a
few.

All these things leave those in the ranks feeling that their
country really
doesn't care about what goes on in the military except whether
or not they
are meeting gender equity goals, completing sensitivity training
or some
other social engineered policy that they don't support. Their
commanders
following zero defect and politically correct command policies
only
exacerbate the problems. Once the rank and file begins to worry
that things
will only get worse many convince themselves that the answer is
to leave the
military and so goes our problem. And don't think that Joe
Civilian isn't
hearing about these problems from those leaving the ranks of our
military.
Could this be part of the recruitment problem? Excuse such a
thought.

I don't believe there are any real simple answers to our
problems because
they have been allowed to go on far too long. Our leadership
has opted to
kneel to Clintonism for whatever reason and has brought us to
our present
dilemma. I wish someone could tell us that our problems are
soon to come to
an end. I believe just the opposite is true and that there will
be many
years of struggle to bring us back from Clintonism if we ever do
overcome the
harm our President and Vice President have exacted on our
military. Even
now, there are those who are getting ready to vote in more of
the same this
November.
