I'm no professional orator, so I'll keep this short and to the point. I recently watched a TV documentary on "The Making of a Marine". It was about boot camp and followed a group of recruits through training at PI. It's obviously a kinder and more gentle corps than when I was in (1969). I don't have a problem with the fact that boots are no longer thumped on or cussed at, but I was genuinely embarrassed when they mentioned that to pass training a recruit had to pass certain physical standards, one of which was to be able to do a least THREE pullups. If I had been the President and seen this on television I would have picked up the phone, called the Commandant and informed him that effective immediately the physical standards for all US Marines would be significantly increased. People I work with know that I was a Marine; I hope that they didn't see this documentary.

I was on the Drill Field during that time sir and that was the minimum required to pass the pft. I know we dont remember it that way but some of my Marines could barely do their 3 to pass. 20 was the maximum thanks for checking up on us and Semper Fi
