Washington State Representative Tom Campbell will again be
introducing his Deeds Not the Breeds Bill, HB 1105, which will prevent
insurance companies from engaging in breed profiling in the State of
Washington. This bill will begin the session in January, 2008 where it
left off last session; namely, in the House Rules Committee.
We have a shortened session in 2008. It will only be 60 days long.
Therefore, Rep. Campbell has requested that all pure-bred dog fanciers
in the State of Washington contact your own member of the Washington
House of Representatives and Senate NOW, while the legislature is out
of
session, to express your support for HB 1105.
This contact is best done in the following fashion, in descending
order:
(1) Clubs should immediately contact House and key Senate leaders
and invite them to the summer shows that remain as "Distinguished
Award Presenters" to present the Group or Best in Show trophies. Welcome
them and their families as your guests. Give them the grand treatment. If you receive acceptances, contact me and I will be happy to assist you with how to progress from there to ensure that the event is used to its maximum political advantage for us.
(2) Schedule an appointment with him or her in their offices. They
should see you in person so that they can put a face to a name. Dress
appropriately, i.e., as if you are attending a job interview, a
wedding, or another occasion where your appearance requires you to look
professional.
(3) Write a kind, thoughtful e-mail or letter to them. Tell them
that you are a constituent. Enclose one or two pictures of your dogs in humorous or otherwise lovable situations around your home.
Please ACT! Last year very, very few of the schutzhund community
(all of whom have breeds subject to insurance companies' exclusions)
acted. Contact your representatives NOW, because the insurance
companies and their lobbyists ceetrainly will.
