I read the screeplay to There Will Be Blood and that is some intense stuff right there. Great writing. No wonder Day-Lewis took the part on. He gets so much material to act from. I also read the books No Country and Charlie Wilson's War. They were both very good read's. Here is my top 5 picks.
1) There Will Be Blood ( if you can get your hands on the script before the movie, read it! )
2) The Kite Runner
3) No Country For Old Men ( will be one of the memorable villains of all time )
4) Charlie Wilson's War
5)Sweeney Todd

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY 2007
1. American Gangster
- hopefully, if the film gets a Best Pic nod
2. Atonement
- seems pretty likely now
3. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
- sheer poetry! it will be the film with nods that comes out of nowhere
4. Into the Wild
- film seems likely to get a nod, so this probably will, too
5. There Will Be Blood
- if it's one thing Anderson's good at, it's getting his scripts nominated
~ I have a very, very strong feeling Charlie Wilson's War is gonna come up and bite everybody in the ass. I've felt since Day 1 it's this year's DREAMGIRLS, and with it being damn near October and no loud praise or reviews, I'm feeling confident about this.
~ I also feel SWEENEY TODD will be the same-old, same-old Burton/Oscar dance: tech nods, nothing major.

No Country for Old Men (The Cohen's are so loved by the Academy)
There Will Be Blood (PT Anderson is the gonna make his mark with this)
Charlie Wilson's War (Again expect the AMPAS to be happy he's back in film)
Reservation Road (It really hurt the Academy to turn down Hotel Rwanda)
American Gangster (Will see if it's schidler's list Steve Zaillian or All the King's Men Steve Zaillian.)
