No, Evening was this year's Marie Antoinette. 3:10 to Yuma, being a remake of a classic film, will be this year's All the King's Men.

I must take great exception to your statements, Brian and Harry. In no way, shape or form does this look nearly as bad as 2006's "All the King's Men". In fact, the early previews have met with very favorable responses, and the trailer looks absolutely awesome! I expect nothing less from a film with Russell Crowe AND Christian Bale and directed by James Mangold. So what if it's a remake?

His character was billed under Crowe's character in the original, but in the remake he's got top billing. I think whichever performance stands out, they'll push for the Lead Actor category.

I love Crowe as an actor, but the Academy is unlikely to forgive him any time soon. The studio would have a better shot with Bale - he's a great actor, he's long overdue, and he's got a strong lineup of films this year. I hope he gets nominated for lead for "Rescue Dawn" and wins for supporting for either this or "I'm Not There."

A lot of remakes of lesser known films work better than that of the classics. Also, the genres are completely different. There's so many differences and approaches to these two films, that comparing them is illogical. Basically, you're comparing "buzz". Look what happened with the remake of Cape Fear. It far exceeded the original. 3:10 to Yuma has the chance to go down that path just as much as it does with the All the King's Men path.

My thoughts, exactly DW. Plus, Mangold is a proven and talented director. Zaillian, while a good screenwriter, was not that good of a director. Furthermore, 3:10 did not suffer the massive delay that ATKM did (though it was in limbo a long time before it got rolling).

What exactly did Crowe do that the academy won't forgive? The phone-throwing incident or his tussle at the BAFTAs? Personally, I think he's behaved himself and looks to deliver solid performances in 3:10 and American Gangster.

Once again, I think Crowe is a terrific actor, but the Academy obviously hasn't forgiven him. Why else would they snub him for Master & Commander and Cinderella Man? Plus, that BAFTA blow-up cost him the win for A Beautiful Mind! I'm keeping my expectations low for him this year.

I don't think the academy doesn't like him. He's been the most nominated lead actor in the past like ten years or so.

Steven Zaillan is a great screenwriter. Sean Penn is one of the best actors of the last few years. Jude Law is a very good actor. Together, they made crap with the remake of "All the King's Men".

Wow, I didn't know Steve Zallian wrote the remake for 3:10 to Yuma and it's also starring Jude Law and Sean Penn!??! That's crazy! This film is doomed! (heh)

Sheesh, Harry. You certainly have it in for 3:10 To Yuma, don't you. Why not give it a rest and wait for the movie to come out before flippantly dismissing it. Oh, BTW, the Departed was also a remake and it won, so there!
