Well yes, of course the HFPA loves Depp. They gave him a nomination for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But even fanboys (and girls) were extremely upset with At World's End. But, even if Sweeney Todd is loathed, he'll get a Globe nod for it.

Best Picture Drama
-"American Gangster"-Possible if can break away from 'The Departed' look
-"Charlie Wilson's War"-Most likely
-"No Country for Old Men"-Not likely, Zodiac might take its spot.
-"Reservation Road"-Most likely to win, but might only be nom. for actors.
-"There Will Be Blood"-Very questionable
Best Picture Musical or Comedy
-"Hairspray"-Most likely to be nominated
-"Margot At the Wedding"-Already with a bunch of buzz
-"Ratatouille"-Ineligable
-"The Savages"-Will the be this years LMS???? Most likely.
-"Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"-Possible nominee, thought it would be a commercial flick, but it is being released in an oscar like way, with a veyr limited release, slowly building to wide.
Best Director
-P.T. Anderson for "There Will Be Blood"-Maybe
-Tim Burton for "Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"-Maybe
-Joel Coen for "No Country For Old Men"-Great buzz
-Mike Nichols for "Charlie Wilson's War"-Great director and fav.
-Ridley Scott for "American Gangster"-Last 2 films were flops but this one looks like he will be redeemed.
Best Actor in A Drama
-George Clooney in "Michael Clayton"-Maybe
-Daniel Day Lewis in " There Will Be Blood"-Don't think so
-Tom Hanks in "Charlie Wilson's War"-Possible, for this or Simpsons Movie
-Joaquin Phoenix in "Reservation Road"-Definite nom.
-Denzel Washington in "American Gangster"-Maybe
Best Actress in A Drama
-Cate Blanchett in "The Golden Age"-Might win, since not for the 1st.
-Jennifer Connelly in "Reservation Road"-Most likely for her Blood Diamond snub
-Jodie Foster in "The Brave One"-I have a feeling this will play out like Panic Room and Flightplan as a B.O. sucsess but not award.
-Angelina Jolie in "A mighty Heart"-BEST SCENE EVER when she finds out Daniel dies. Deserves to win but after a poor B.O. she needs a strong awards campaign to win.
-Keira Knightly in "Atonement"-Maybe
Best Actor in A Musical or Comedy
-Don Cheadle in "Talk To Me"-Great movie but needs to expand
-Johnny Depp in "Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"-Possible
-Phillip Seymore Hoffman in "The Savages"-Most likely
-Jack Nicholson in "The Bucket List"-I think this is more a B.O. film
-John Travolta in "Hairspray"-NO WAY!!!!!!!
Best Actress in A Musical or Comedy
-Helena Bonham Carter in "Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"-Don't think so but possible
-Marion Contillard in "La Vie En Rose"-Winner most likely
-Anne Hathaway in "Becoming Jane"-NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Horrible vanity project. I saw an advance screening and not good at all. It's like Witherspoon's Vanity Fair. This will be forgotten ASAP!
-Nicole Kidman in "Margot At the Wedding"-Most likely
-Laura Linney in "The Savages"-Most likely, I love Linney!
Best Supporting Actor
-Javier Bardem in "No Country For Old Men"-Maybe
-Russel Crowe in "American Gangster"-I saw him over Denzel
-Robert Downey Jr. in "Zodiac"-Most likely
-Clive Owen in "The Golden Age"-I don't know but maybe.
-Mark Ruffalo in "Reservation Road"-Maybe
Best Supporting Actres
-Jennifer Jason Leigh in "Margot At The Wedding"-Definetly if not winner, her being the most buzzed about performance.
-Samantha Morton in "The Golden age"-Maybe
-Michelle Pfieffer in "Hairspray"-NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Julia Roberts in "Charlie Wilson's War"-Possibly
-Mira Sorvino in "Reservation Road"-Maybe, hopefully she'll make a comeback

-"Reservation Road"-I don't think so
-"There Will Be Blood"-maybe

Travolta is supporting. And Johnny Depp is a lock just because the HFPA is still apologizing for not nominating him for the first pirates (not because they love him, even though they do)
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
What are you talking about? Johnny was nominated for the first Pirates, but lost to Bill Murray for Lost in Translation. And I think that John Travolta will be nominated in lead at the Globes, and then, if he is nominated for other awards, he will be in Supporting. Harvey Fierstein's Tony was in lead, so it'd make sense for the HFPA to mimic that.

Alot of people are putting her in Actress Comedy/musical....but i do not see how this qualifies for either. It is a Drama and she does not sing..she lipsynchs Edith Piaf. I have no problem with this except that it would seem to disqualifry her for musical actress.
I also hate lame ass Hairspray...a movie with no balls, and lot's of Disney talent.
How about Across The Universe, and Evan Rachel Wood and Jim Sturgess? Have you ever tried to sing Beatles songs? Not as easy as it looks.

Yes, because the most important thing for a feel-good teen movie musical about a chubby girl who wants to integrate a TV show is for it to have balls. Sheesh. Some people...

No Country For Old Men is a drama, with some dark comedy here and there. I saw it at Cannes, and most everyone considered it a gritty drama that was absolutely phenominal. Bardem is a lock for Supporting Actor, and depending on Charlie Wilson's War or Sweeny Todd being good or not it may get a picture nom.

Just because a film hasn't been released doesn't mean it isn't eligible for the Golden Globes. "Dreamgirls" was released on Christmas and still managed to win Best Picture (Musical or Comedy) at the Golden Globes.
