Firstly, I for one am kind of impressed by your "guesswork." These nods are not far off from my own. I would say that as the Foreign Film entry is virtually almost always guesswork, a pretty good indicator is films shown at Cannes. And, not to brag, but I saw two of the films you mentioned: DAYS OF DARKNESS and PERSEPOLIS.
I would say PERSEPOLIS is a definite, and is 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS and 2 DAYS. DAYS OF DARKNESS, however, not a lock. It was not incredibly lauded when it closed the ceremony at Cannes (people in the audience seemed to think it was just okay), and my friend didn't care for it. I, for one, liked it. It definitely could have been better, but it was good. I enjoyed it, would see it again, and wouldn't mind if it got nominated. Interesting trivia, though, when it premiered in France, it was called THE AGE OF IGNORANCE, not DAYS OF DARKNESS.
Anyway, as of today, October 20th, 2007, here are my 5 predix:
4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS and 2 DAYS (Romania)
THE COUNTERFEITERS (Austria)
DAYS OF DARKNESS (Canada)
PERSEPOLIS (France)
YOU, THE LIVING (Sweden) |
