Cate Blanchett Deserves To Win. Talk about versatility - from Queen Elizabeth to Bob Dylan. Cate Blanchett went outside of the box and gave us something different in I'm Not There. This is from an actress who is not a musician in real life. She is not even American. She is also at the top of her game in Hollywood, but had no ego about taking a supporting role in an indie film.

Oh yeah... and for Best Visual Effects, Spider-Man 3 should have been nominated, not Harry Potter. Worst movie of the three, but still, pretty awesome visual effects. Transformers is gonna win though.

I am still angry that:

* Angelina Jolie was not nominated for a Mighty Heart
* That Cate Blanchett was nominated for Elizabeth: The Golden Age (love her tho)
* That people got mad that Tilda Swinton won (she was brilliant)

I am still overjoyed that:
* Marion Cotillard won
* Tilda Swinton won

Who Will Win/Should Win...?

No score for this post
February 24 2008, 2:08 AM

Best Picture: No Country For Old Men...Beautifully Crafted, from start to finish, and deserving of every Nomination and Award it has/will recieve.

My personal Favorite...the Refreshingly Offbeat, Clever, Intelligent, and Genuinely FUNNY----Juno!

Best Director: The Cohen Brothers work on No Country For Old Men. It's as if everything they've ever done was preparation for this Extraordinary Film!

SHOULD have been Nominated...Tim Burton for Sweeney Todd! If ever there was a PERFECT matchup between a Director and a filmed adaptation of a classic theatre piece, THIS was it!

Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis...SHOULDA, WOULDA---WILL take home the Gold! I never thought ANY Actor would ever give a film performance that could even come CLOSE to Daniel Day-Lewis' Brilliant work in My Left Foot---but along comes There Will Be Blood and, Lo and Behold, some guy named Daniel Day-Lewis has done it again!

Best Actress...The Old Guard that still dominates the Academy will probably reward Julie Christie, even if they never saw Away From Her. She's a Class Act and has been missing from the screen for far too long anyway. Of course, that same Voting Block just LOVES Foreign Actresses in standard Biopics. It's possible that Marion Cottilard could cyphon away enough of Christie's votes, leaving the door wide open for any one of the remaining hopefuls.

And since just about everyone HAS seen Juno, Ellen Page, despite her youth, could well pull off the Upset of all Upsets! And THAT would be just Fine by me!She's as Invaluable to her film as Daniel Day-Lewis is to his.

Best Supporting Actor and Actress...Javier Bardem WILL and SHOULD win this one. And although Cate Blanchette is fast becoming the new Meryl Streep, she has the double whammy obstacles of two nominations in one year and a recent win to overcome. I'm guessing Amy Ryan WILL take the Oscar, and Deservedly so, for Gone Baby Gone.

And although his name escapes me, there's a Sound Editor with TWENTY Oscar Noms and NO Wins who is up again this year for his work on Transformers! If anyone SHOULD win the Academy Award-----it's THAT guy....umm, What's His Name?
