BEST PICTURE:
-Amelia: a bio pic that the academy will just eat up
-The Lovely Bones: a best-selling novel, a beloved director, an amazing cast...right up their alley
-Nine: a tony-award winning musical with a respected director and an incredible group of women (and day-lewis). they won't be able to resist
-The Road: a pultizer prize winning novel, Cormac McCarthy, Viggo Mortenson. a disturbing story that will be hard to forget
-Taking Woodstock: award-winning director, engaging story. gut feeling on this one
BEST ACTOR:
-Javier Bardem, Biutiful: a fasinating character; direction by acclaimed BABEL director
-Morgan Freeman, The Human Factor: a beloved actor portraying a historic figure. the academy will eat it up
-Viggo Mortenson, The Road: A father trying to protect his child...complete oscar bait.
-Edward Norton, Leaves of Grass: portraying two characters (i.e. Lee Marvin). a remarkable talent who is defiantely OVERDO
-Christopher Plummer, The Last Station: Portraying the toruted russian author...im expecting a tour de force performance here
BEST ACTRESS:
-Penelope Cruz, Broken Embraces: a film from an award-winning writer/director. don't see her winning because she just won in the supporting category, but she'll make the short-list
-Helen Mirren, Love Ranch: portraying a raunchy madem. they'll love the performance
-Robin Wright Penn, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee: a struggling wife who is forced to re-examine her life. a career best
-Michelle Pfiffer, Cheri: a sultry, middle-aged courtsean. the academy will love it. plus, pfiffer is LONG OVERDO
-Hilary Swank, Amelia: they love her...end of story
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
-Matt Damon, The Human Factor: an award-winning screenwriter who is due for some acting recognition. plus, the added bonus of playing a real life character
-Paul Giamatti, The Last Station: a well-respected actor by the academy. portraying a real life person--and an odd character at that
-Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road: im anticipating a strong performance. might even upstage Mortenson
-Alfred Molina, An Education: his nomination would be the shock factor; a well respected actor who missed out on nominations for: Chocolate and Frieda
-Stanley Tucci, The Lovely Bones: a disturbing character, but i suspect his true talent will show through and they won't be able to deny him some much deserved recognition
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
-Patricia Clarkson, Whatever Works: another shock nomination; clarkson is an incredibly gifted actress and i have a feeling she will shine in this quirky woody allen film
-Sophia Loren, Nne: the academy has shown us that they love the mamma characters. loren is a beloved actress who will defiantely sway the older voters
-Helen Mirren, The Last Station: another shocker: a double nominee! if she were to win it would be for this portrayl of an emotionally tortured wife
-Samantha Morton, The Messenger: a wonderfully gifted actress who will once again grab hold of the academy's attention with this portrayl of a soldier's widow
-Imelda Stauton, Taking Woodstock: they loved her in vera drake, and I suspect that they will love this portrayl of a motel owner and mother of a gay son
