Just a reminder that the Schooling Match and the Pet Fair are both coming up next weekend April 21 and 22nd. Please check out the calendar for more information.
We would really like to thank Leanne and Jennifer Williams for all their dedication and hard work that they put into helping homeless pets. They have been volunteering and fostering for Pawsitively Pit Bull and have given a lot of their time and money to do so. We would really like to recognize them for all their dedication and compassion. They also donated pet supplies and food to Outside In so they could make it a little easier for those less fortunate. It is so nice to see this mother and daughter team doing such a great job to make a difference. Keep up the great work!! If any one would like to make a donation, we can point you in the right direction. Thank you again!
Krystal and Sandy did it :0) Finished his Rally Advance Title.
by Rebecca & Krystal; Sandy&Sakura (no login)
Sandy got his Rally Advance Title this weekend at Timberland Valley Centralia show. We had a great time. It was a difficult course and venue but she and Sandy managed it. The ring was outdoors undercover on dirt in livestock area which is sometimes difficult for a lot of dogs. It was also near all the vendors...so Krystal really had to work on keeping Sandy focused...only four dogs qualified, thus Sandy got a 4th place on his final leg with a score of 71. ;0) A gift to us with a score that low. She tried him in Excellent B on Sunday and made it half way through the course until Sandy decided he just didn't want to work anymore...on the backward halt exercise he SAT there literally ignoring Krystal turning his head away yawning, etc. It was at that point the judge saved her and excused them from the ring. At the Excellent level the judges are far more particular and they expect the dogs to perform.
Anyhow, I am pleased with them both and now we can relax a little more as we attend shows this summer because we do not have to worry about meeting AKC's deadline that we put ourselves under to finish him in Rally ADV A since he got his Obedience Novice (CD) about three weeks ago.
Now we are working with Sakura (our Minpin) to hopefully get her ready for Rally Advance, but she is a little firecracker so will take some time. I'm thinking Obedience Pre-Novice will be good for her and of course DogTown's playdates as they are a great way to socialize a nervous nellie like Sakura. The Monday night Rally class is also helping her along :0)
I'm so excited to see more people putting in the effort to show that their dogs have accomplished advanced training! Sandy's three titles and the one so far on Sakura are a testiment to how you can do anything you put your mind to. You don't see many Min Pins in the obedience rings, so it's great that she's got a title at such a young age and Sandy is doing well too.
Thanks for sharing the news of this exciting win with everyone. Hopefully it will encourage more to participate in AKC, UKC, Mixed Breed and fun match shows. There should be a lot going on this summer.
Martin told us on Friday when he picked Moose up that they were going to the vet this weekend so if we wanted to have some fun, we could try to guess his weight. Moose is our Mastiff pup that comes to daycare everyday and everyone always has a comment about how big he is getting. People are shocked when we tell them that Moose is only six months old. When Monday comes and we haven't seen Moose for a couple days it really does show how he changes so quickly.
135 pounds! I was trying to remember when he went to the vet last and what his weight was but I couldn't recall the number. I keep thinking it was 118 pounds but Anne-Marie thought it was 125 pounds so we will know by tomorrow.
We would like to wish everyone a very HAPPY EASTER! Just a reminder to keep your pets safe if you have easter candy, grass or easter lillies around the house. It doesn't take much for our pets to take interest in all the new goodies and then before we know it, trouble comes our way. Please feel free to let us know about some fun things you did with you pets to enjoy this Easter Sunday and/or email us some pictures. Take care and have lots of fun!
We have had 25-30 dogs in daycare for some time now and people who come in to gather information on DogTown are quite amazed at how well everyone does with each other. We all know that dogs are dogs but for people to see all the different breeds, sizes and gender getting along so well can be very interesting to see.
On Monday of this week, we had a gentleman come in to ask some questions about our services and noticed how many pit bulls were in playing together which brought him to his next question, "How do you keep the pit bulls from tearing the other dogs up?" "I have heard that they are not friendly and can't get along with other dogs." We simply explained that that is completely false and we do not breed discriminate here since any dog has the potential to cause harm to another dog or person besides the fact that two of the owners know first hand what a pit bull is like since they have their own. This gentleman singled out Romeo and said he looked like he could be quite mean, now for those of you who know Romeo from daycare or play nights knows how that statement alone shows that you should never judge a book by its cover. We had seven, not counting our own Pit bulls and including a foster from Pawsitively Pit Bull that was on her first day, that represented the breed extremely well.
If we were able to make a difference and educate one person then we can say we did our job well!
Thank you to all of of you who are responsible pet people.
This is so true and I am glad that Romeo could help even just one person to see the truth about pit bulls! I wish people would just take the time to learn about th breed and not get caught up in the media hype. I feel sorry for those people who turn their nose at a pit bull when it comes time to find the perfect family dog because they are missing out on what I think is the best breed to own! Thank you Dog Town for everything that you do! We would be lost with out you!!! Jennifer, Chuck & Romeo :0)
It was amazing that the gentleman picked out Romeo because he's the sweetest dog you could ever meet. Just watching him "wrestle" gently with the small dogs, like Pugs and little terriers like the Cairn would tell you that! If you want to see scary, get in the way of a Lab or Shepherd chasing a tennis ball;) Those guys are fast!
I just want to say THANK YOU,,, for standing by the pit bulls & not letting public opinion stop you from taking them into daycare.
As you know, I work in Tigard & lived in Gresham. My work hours & the long commute make it very hard for me to get Jayden the exercise & dog socialization he enjoys.
Before Dog Town opened I personally visited six doggy day cares in the Tigard & Lake Oswego areas & was turned down based solely on his breed. On all of them I offered to provide training certificates, references from his previous dog daycare, and dog walkers. Three of these places offered obedience classes & were very welling to allow him into their classes.
I even talked to the owner of one and asked if they crate him during the daytime so he could attend night training classes, and once he completed one of their obedience classes, then could he be allowed to participate in day care? I will to pay of the normal daycare fee while he was crated & their normal obedience class fee.
Every one of these places stated that they personally did not have a problem with his breed, but it was their other clients they were worried about.
Thank you for opening Dog Town,,, It is so refreshing to have a place to take Jayden where he can be treated as “Jayden” and not a pit bull.
The hypocracy is really interesting. There's a daycare in my area where they will allow Daisy to come to their play nights, but they won't accept her in daycare. The owner said, "you know, I don't have any problem at all with pit bulls, in fact my best friend has a pit bull. We just don't have the staffing to give the dogs the constant supervision that we feel pit bulls require"
Well, first, when she made the "My best friend comment" I couldn't help myself and I said sarcastically, "I understand, my best friend is a black person". She was stunned for a moment, and then said "touche".
Secondly, any place that admits they don't have the staffing for constant supervision is not a place I want my Daisy to play..Pit Bull or no.

AKC is considering allowing mixed breeds to register in a way similar to the ILP program. Please go to http://www.akc.org/mixedbreed_survey/ and fill out the survey. It is especially important for those of us who have purebreds and compete with them to suppport the acceptance of mixed breed dogs in these events. Hopefully, it will lead to a higher level of training and an incentive to spay and neuter for the general public. It will also open doors and offer more frequent events for people with mixed breeds that have worked so hard to get them well trained.
Don't forget though, that the Mixed Breed Club holds shows quarterly and is an excellent opportunity to work with and earn the same titles with your mixed breed dogs. It will be nice to have everyone working together and getting more opportunities to do so eventually.
This Wednesday we'll be having another Play Night from 6-8pm. It's just $5 per hour per dog and is a great chance for you to stay and watch your kids play with all of their friends. Last month we had an excellent turn out and I hope to see more of you this time. We will have a separate area for small/calm dogs with plenty of things for them to do too without getting caught in the chaos of the crazy kids:)
Dogs that haven't been to DogTown are welcome too, but you must bring vaccine records showing DHLPP (or equivalent), Rabies and Bordatella.
Good luck to all participant's at the Mixed Breed Show

We would like to wish all of you entered in the Mixed Breed show this weekend good luck!! We can't wait for the result's. This is another great chance to get out and show off your hard work. We know you all will do great!
It was fun seing Maddy, Anne-Marie, Tami, and Kim at the show today!! Nice job! I encourage all of your DogTown Citizens to try out a Mixed Breed Show or Practice day--If you are still building your obedience skills and find the obedience ring daunting, try out Conformation! It is fun for your dog, they just have to eat in the ring and be pretty!!
I had a great time at the show. I was glad I decided to enter Marlee in Rally, she did much better then I expected for her first time. Congrats to Basha, Jewel and Jax for getting in the ring as well and doing conformation, Obedience and Rally. What a day! It was really good to see Joyce there with her goodies and do some catching up. I can't wait til the next show!!!!!!
