I'm trying to find information on Herbert James Bancroft, born 1867 in Chelsea, son of James Bancroft who was born in Halifax in 1828 & Mary Ann Branson.
Herbert James is listed on the 1881 census as living at the Middlesex County Industrial School, were he and a number of other boys age 12-15 years were described as being "detained under The Indutrial Schools Act". The act covered various reasons for detailing boys ranging from being classed as an Orphans to having been convicted of a crime.
He seems to just disappear after 1881...and possibly may have emigrated to either the US or Australia.
Does anyone have further information about him?
