Response to Bancrofts for the 'Men of Worth' Project

Hi Andy
I have some info on these two soldiers, which might be of interest if you do not have it already.
Joseph [Joe] Bancroft was born 19/11/1892 at Silsden, and was the son of John Henry & Agnes Bancroft. As you know he served in the Duke of Wellington’s regiment, The Keighley News reported on 12/6/1917 that he had been wounded and had received the military medal. It later reported on 30/3/1918 that he had been killed in France, and again reported on 6/7/1918 that he was awarded the DCM.

James Bancroft was born around 1888 in Keighley, the son of James & Rose Bancroft.
He also served in the 2nd & 6th Battalions of the Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Division. He died in France sometime in 1917, as was buried at Achien-Le-Grand Cemetery, France. Grave Number 26711

Do you know anything more about either of them?

I would very much like to see any photos you have on these brave men, as I might do an article on my blog sometime on this subject.
You can e mail the photos to:
Jbancroft1@btinternet.com

Thanks
