I only have a tenuous connection with the name Bancroft and have no idea yet if they originated in Yorkshire but worth a try !!
I have ancestors called Ryle
Thomas Ryle and Mary ? had a large family in and around St Botolphs / Bishopsgate area in London
One of their sons was baptised Robert Bancroft Ryle on 12 Sep 1809
I am hoping this may be a clue to Mary's family
