The VQ hammer / sear only will help alot. I bought mine as a kit that included the trigger.
As for pre-travel, I like some on my pistols. Not a whole bunch, but some. I guess that comes from shooting the M1911. If you don't let the "take-up" go all the way forward while shooting, you'll never know it was there. I use that take-up as a stage just before the targets turn in Conventional pistol shooting.
