A factory trigger only has a overtravel screw in it, unless you've installed your own pre-travel screw. An overtravel screw is located above the trigger pin through hole, and a pre-travel screw has to be located below the trigger through pin hole. A pre-travel screw will take up the excess trigger movement by preventing the trigger from traveling forward. The overtravel screw is adjusted to take up any additional trigger movement after the sear releases the hammer. When the hammer is released there is no more tension on the triger and any extra movement will be applied with no resistance and will cause your finger to slam against the gun's frame. So, an overtravel is adjusted to remove any extra movement of the trigger after the sear has released the hammer.
If you have a genuine pre-travel screw installed, then post another message to the forum and I will repost the proper adjustment procedures for you.
