I'm not saying this happened, but did we possibly use a pen torch on or near the extractor to set the dry lube? Because if this may have happened, then it is possible to change the extractor's temper and cause the high carbon steel to become brittle and snap under normal use. This is not an accusation, just hypothesizing.
