I don't use any of the fancy Hi-tech stuff, I just stick with the military (GI) issue oils. In the summer I use a light coat of Break Free CLP Mil-L-63460D and in the winter I use military General Purpose Light Weapons Oil VV-L-800C.
I've known guys who've bought all the high tech lubricants like Tetra and Militech but they've never seemed to work any better or worse than the oils I use. I even tried Marvel's Mystery Oil (great for pneumatic tools) for a while in practice just to see if it would work any better but the results weren't any different than the mil issue oil.
I'll share a personal story about Tetra that happened many years ago. Once this teammate of mine had an alibi in a Bullseye Team Match because of a jam. He was using Tetra oil and he just dumped a whole bunch on his 45 to try and make it through this rapid fire alibi. When he shot, the oil must have worked its way into his chamber, because as the bullets were going down range they were leaving behind smoke vapor trails after each shot. (the sun was just at the right angle to highlight the vapor trails) It looked like string or fishning line coming off the back of the bullets. We had never seen anything like that happen before and still laugh about it today.
