Is anyone manning the helm here? The place is going to $hit...groupies on the beachboard...no updates on the website. WTF? A fine state of affairs, I must say.
In early February this year Reb and I spoke and I told him I would help out and fix the various pages around the site where code had got messed up since I stepped down from designing/coding the site, as I was sad to see that site "housekeeping" left a lot to be desired. I also suggested to Reb that he might want to write a new front page to the site as the one that is there now is way out of date.
On the 6th February, Reb promised me in an e-mail that he would write a new front page.
I haven't heard from him since regarding the site.
I have worked on this site since I completely redesigned it in 2005 and have always been willing to help out, but to be frank, if Reb can't take the time to get back to me after 3 months and write a short note to his fans for his own website, why should I waste my time and energy chasing him?
It doesn't give me any pleasure to tell you the above, but it's true.
The only reason I'm posting this is because I'm getting tired of the implication in posts over the past few months that the lack of updates to the site are somehow my fault, which they most certainly are not.
I have kept Maz in the picture with what has been happening in the background with the site so hopefully she can vouch for what I'm saying.
I love Reb to bits and I hope we will always be good friends but, with the best will in the world, "organised" is not a word in his vocabulary, I'm afraid. And I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it.

Hi Izzy -- Matt did an incredible job revamping this site. He added an amazing amount of features including that nifty banner you see above the forum post list.
Yup, everything Matt wrote, he wrote to me in email as well. All true.
Matt, I don't think anyone here believes that you weren't or aren't doing what you're "supposed" to be, at all. It was pretty clear way back when that you were taking a break and that you'd passed the torch (so to speak). There have been maybe 2-3 updates since you've left, not much else. Whatever the reasons (and I'm sure there are plenty more none of us know about), it's disheartening. But things change, and there are things simply out of a person's control. Just the nature of the beast I suppose.

All I know to say is that it seems there is a problem here. The question is how will it get fixed? If I could I would do it myself but my web skills suck! I pushed forever to get the last update that Matt did.(And Matt you did a great job man!) Its sad the main page still has tour dates on it from almost a year ago. Take care...Guv

I handed this over a couple of years ago because I was just so overwhelmed with everything in my life. I was working 2 jobs, going to school full time, and navigating through a messy divorce. I just didn't have the time or the energy to do the board justice as a moderator. I thought that I'd passed it on to people who would show it the lof that we'd given it for so many years. I guess I was wrong and I apologize to everyone for that error in judgement.
My original post was intended more to comment on the fact that the "I'm so hot for you, Reb" posts were allowed to remain on the board. I had passed on my guidelines for moderating the board (there were very few) and the groupie thing was #1. It turns Reb off when people post stuff like that and it serves no purpose other than it's comedic value for the rest of us. I had no idea that those to whom I had entrusted the beachboard had taken a permanent vacation. As far as updates go, I personally care more about seeing a current tour schedule than anything else. I know that it's available on MySpace (or it used to be, anyway) but I can't get into my MySpace page anymore so I'm kind of lost as to where the music is. Maybe someone here would be willing to compile that info occasionally and email it to you. Just a thought.

You haven't upset me at all Jean. I was really referring to posts that have appeared sporadically over the past few months complaining about lack of updates, new gear pics, etc, along with offers to redesign the site, etc.
I would like to point out though that I'm not "back in charge", nor did I ask to be. I simply offered at the start of the year to tidy things up a bit and add some new content, that's all. I haven't been able to do that because I haven't been given any new content to add.
As far as the forum goes, I think a lot of the regulars have been (and this is only my opinion and not intended to offend) really bored by the endless posts about the minutiae of guitars and amps and also the refusal of a lot of the newer posters to get involved in the more "fun" and "discussion" posts that used to make this place really special. I've played guitar for 30 years now but I've reached the point now where I really don't give a flying **** what Reb's amp settings are, or whether he's had an additional magic capacitor added internally to his amps. I DO care whether he has saved anyone lately with his superpowers, whether he ever intends to take his gay sailor outfit out of mothballs and about hearing his tips for removing a barbecue grill from a swimming pool.

I hope my posts have not offended anyone as of lately. I have the same feelings as you Jean and Matt.....I hate it when "newbies" post, and don't get the response that they wanted or that Reb didn't respond fast enough or at all. Uh....the man is busy.... with a tour....duh? He doesn't have time now to respond or probably even care. We are the ones that circulate and satellite around here, and Reb jumps in every once in a while...which is cool. It's the connection of Reb's music that brought us here, but it's the GENUINE folks that kept and keep us (me) coming back.
No matter what the reasons, it's just sad to see, everyone agrees on that. As far as the site goes...will it change? Who knows. Maybe not. No matter how disheartening it is, we can't control that part of it. As far as the forum goes, it's the one thing we can control (well, to a point anyway). I've had more up's and down's in the last few years than should be allowed, and now have settled into an incredibly quiet, reclusive, strange life. I'm not online during the day like I used to be and evenings good ol goofin has been pared down a lot. But it was always nice to know there's a place that's like our own "Cheers", where you could drop by any time and know there was a seat up at the bar for you. Maybe REB should take a que from Kip and just pull the plug on this forum too? Nah, that would never happen...but in a weird way, it kind of seems like it did anyway.

The groupie thang? Boy, do I feel stupid, I just thought Reb's board didn't attract that stuff, it always seemed to be guys wanting to figure out 'licks' and tried and true fans and friends, I didn't realized that 'poop' was edited out. Go me being a clueless blonde!
And the myspace thing? As Jean said (hi Jean!) I can't get on myspace at work and in a fit of restrained anger and wanted to destroy something ( december was a black month) I 'destroyed' my myspace page. I had one in the first place because I was so impressed with MAZ's and to promote Kip's music. Myspace in so many ways, has also lost it's charm, which is unfortunate, because at it's best, it was a way to meet and interact with people I never would have otherwise and it allows eveveryone to show a little bit about who they are.

I'm a huge Reb fan,and always have been since the Winger days.Being a guitar player and a fan Reb's wesite should be of interest.
Although I've only posted once or twice I check out the message boards frequently and I have to say it is one of the worst boards I've come across.The majority of posts seem to come from girly fans with nothing useful to say,finding an interesting thread is almost impossible.
I think it would help if the board was divided into topics,so that those who wanted to talk about guitars could talk about that stuff and the girly's who should have grown out of talking about how pretty they think Reb is could post amongst themselves.
The beachboard could do alot worse than to take a leaf out of Jemsite,and maybe a tidier more imformative forum would get more posts
LMFAO @ girly posts!! I'm with Jean on this -- ELIMINATE them. I didn't realize that that had been done in all the time she and Matt were in charge of the board. Shows what a great job they were doing. I thought this board was immune from those morons.
We BeachBoarders have a goofy sense of humor and if you have been reading the board for an extended period of time you'll know that this place rocks.
Most posts aren't Reb/gear-centric. Just a bunch of people who dig the same music goofing around. It's been relatively quiet for the last year or so, but the people and the board are still the best on the internet.
lol....girly posts. That is kinda funny. This forum is and always has been probably 95% male of which probably pushing half are musicians or "gear head geeks" (or whatever you call em lol). But it kind of proves a point. This forum was always a big mish-mosh of conversation and it all had it's place. No matter how different or useless the conversation was, it all fit together. It all just worked. It was like stew ya know? It was totally hot wings and beer. It was....."Cheers"! Somewhere along the line, I have no idea when or how, it changed to oil and water. The dynamic changed. It happens. We all have the choice to come here or not. To read and reply to any post or not. All the same, please don't think it hasn't been suggested to switch the forum over to a newer more updated forum, where there are sections and divisions and "order and organization". It has. In fact there have been "example" boards drawn up, but REB didn't want them. He likes THIS format. It's simple and easy and REB is a simple and easy guy. He gave us a clubhouse and really, it's our decision how to decorate it and what to do with it. But the space we have is what it is.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, "Girly posts" as you put it is part of what makes this board "home" to so many people. There are a lot of people who love guitar but aren't "gear heads" and it can be pretty intimidating posting on a board where everything is discussed is strictly "shop". REB has a board here where ANYONE can feel comfortable posting. I appreciate that. And REB himself has participated in the goofing himself at times. It's part of who he is.
It's pretty easy to tell which posts are straight guitar talk and which are not. Don't read the posts that don't appeal to you.
There are the occasional whack posts where people tell REB "how pretty he is".. lmao ummmmm, I can honestly say.. that is the exception here and there isn't anything that can be done about that. I just laugh.

Yeah...I know. I seem to be associated with the "wrong way" to do most things...by default. Guess I'm just lucky that way. I don't mind the tech stuff or the girly stuff, I just think when the groupie chicks get out of hand and pissy-moany because Reb doesn't answer fast enough, or say what they want to hear, there's nothing wrong with delivering a reality check to them.
It might seem mean, but I think it's disrespectful some of the things they post on an open forum to a married man, you know?
