Make that a diet pepsi for me Pad. I'm home from work ON TIME and in for the evening. I'm friggin thrilled! No time to FAF at work for sure. But my FAFn for tonight is consisting of making meatoaf and garlic mashed potatoes for dinner, getting into my favorite pj's, watching the 2 movies I received from Netflix (Tortilla Heaven and Ghost World) and finishing up some sewing projects I've had hanging around way too long! Oh...and drinking lots of diet pepsi
how times change, huh? =o)

Hey, does anyone have a fullproof recipe for meatloaf?
My plan is to throw some hamburger together with whatever I sounds good, then put an egg in it, mash it together, loaf it and bake it.
375 for an hour, maybe?
Is that right? Hope so.
Maybe times don't change THAT much lol.

noo....I'm a MAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHZZZZ-Been! Not a MAAAAAAAAZ-Been!
Okay so I diced some onions and garlic, put in some mushrooms, salt, pepper and a dash of cayenne...and a quick shake of woshetershtereshhsseehsshhere sauce (how do you spell that anyway?). It's baking now.
No red potatoes left dammit. Just those big ass Jethro sized brown ones. Only three of those suckers fit in the pot! I had to cut them in half. They're boiling.
And...I'm on my 2nd DIET PEPSI! I DO have a brand new baby bottle of Crown staring at me though.

Hoi MAAAAAAAAHHZZZ-bean, the last time I had meatloaf was in a luxury gourmet restaurant called PERKINS (you may have heard of it!!!) on an OPEN SANDWICH - which is restaurant speak for a soggy bit of dough that may once have been related to a loaf of bread!!.
Pad - yes, Crown is beverage lol...Crown Royal? My meatlof isn't bad. A little dry but that's what gravy (aka..cream of chicken soup cuz I can't make gravy) is for, right?? My mashed potatoes are pretty good. I didn't realize 3 potatoes made so much mashed. Might have to eat them for breakfast....or at least spackle a hole in the wall or something.

i've only been to perkins once in my life and it happened to be with you MAZ and Julene...
dang...i'm hungry now! but it's sorta to late for me to eat...maybe i'll have a bag of potato chips
Oh yeah, we've done some damn fine dining in out day, haven't we Cherry?!
Okay guys, if you want to see a pretty funny movie, get "Tortilla Heaven". I don't know if it's just funny to ME cuz all the fuss over the Holy Tortilla is soooooooooo TOTALLY My Mother and Aunt and paternial Grandmother (and the rest of the older women in the family!) and it makes me laugh or if it's funny just cuz it's funny.
I have been hankering for a good meatloaf dinner. I really love old fashioned Diner meatloaf with rich brown gravy and a side of mashed. My mother's meatloaf recipe was vile so I know what NOT to do.
Almost all of the ones I see online or on FoodTV are slathered in ketchup -- YUCK! I may give yours a try MAZ. I hear Knors packets are pretty good for making gravy too.
Paddy, RED potatoes RULE!!! They are soooooo creamy and I like leaving the skins on too.
If you have a good produce dept at your grocery store try and find purple potatos and give them a test flight.
pretty much the same as red ones but they look tight on the dish with green onion stems.

``s`,,`,
Sandi, I friggin LOVE brown gravy! I was tempted to drive to KFC just to get some gravy for the potatoes last night. Love red potatoes too. My faves are the baby red ones (new potatoes?) with broiled with rosemary and garlic. My Aunt Frances made the most KICK ASS meatloaf EVER! But the recipe went to the grave with her because my cousins, who all cook like mother****ers, never watched her make it nor did they ever ask her about it! LOL!
Iz, can I find purple potatoes at the chain grocery stores or do I have to go to a more organic place? We have tons of organic market chains here now too. I'm right by a Sunflower Market! They have great produce, even though it tends to be pricey unless it's on sale. Even still, produce in Colorado...sucks. I need to move someplace that has good produce year round! I was craving oranges this week, went to King Soopers (owned by Kroger) because they have better produce than Safeway, but even still all the oranges were about as big as my fist and they were more yellow than orange!
I make my meatloaf like this: 2 lbs. ground beef, about 1 cup Heinz kethcup (I don't really measure- it might be a little bit less), 3/4 to 1 cup 4C seasoned bread crumbs, 1/2 envelope onion soup mix, dash of worhchestershire sauce, 1 egg. Mix together, make two loaves. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes. For the gravy I use cream of mushroom soup and Gravy Master and add some water.
MAZ, I think your meatloaf may have been dry cuz it was baked too long- 45 min. should be good.
And remember all you MEN out there- Don't let your Meat Loaf!
Heather (Heater)
LMAO @ Salisbury Steak Paddy! What a memory you just hit :))))
When I was a Brownie we had some kind of formal dinner. Salisbury Steak, mashed potatoes, and string beans was the menu for every one. After dinner we got to get up and do The Alley Cat en masse for our parents. I can still hear the cackle of the piano. CLAP and TURN.
Man, I haven't thought about THAT in almost 40 years.
hahaha....my friend Terrie and i were talking about red potatos today and the different ways to make them....i LOVE them soooooooooo much! i have a great meatloaf recipe i'll have to give it to you girls....Heater...your's sounds good!
we've had the wiener wagon out today....sheeesh....we sold a little over a thousand friggin wieners....wienerwienerwiener
Maz-I found the purple potatoes in the produce dept at a "SAVE MART" in california. and yeah its a major chain store out there.
I think it was in the section where they have organic and special import fruits & vegetables.
Hey you know those water misters that come on once in awhile to spray the lettuce & stuff?
F'n SAVE MART has special audio visual FX in thier produce department.
you'll hear a sound of "THUNDER" then these little strobe lights kinda start flashing before the sprayers come on...then it makes a "RAIN" sound.
like disneyland

Just a thought.

Just another thought...
Cherry, I think you guys should hire someone to wear a weiner costume and take pictures with the kids. WALLY WEINER!

HEY! I took a picture next to this famous weenie a few years ago! It was on my friends throw away camera though. I'll have to ask if she ever developed that film.

about 1.5/2 lb ground beef or turkey
1 cup oatmeal (not instant)
1/2 to 1 onion (depending upon size)
1 egg (or 1/4 cup Egg Beaters)
1 can of tomato sauce
Cheddar or Mozzerella Cheese (optional)
salt & pepper to taste
optional: green pepper, celery
When I mix the loaf, I put one tablespoon of the tomato sauce in. I bake it plain in a 350* oven for 30 minutes alone, then 30 minutes with the rest of the sauce poured onto it. If I want the cheese, I put it on somewhere in the last ten minutes for it to melt.

My stepfather used to grow the 'weird' stuff in his home garden--we've had cotton, popcorn (darn squirrels used to get it before he could get it dried), purple potatoes, yellow cherry tomatoes (I love them, they're not as acidic)...

Wow...haven't been here in ages....hope everyone is well and had a fab Thanksgiving. I've been recuperating from some major surgery over the last couple of weeks and am starting to go a little stir crazy. Saw this post and had to throw my recipe in there. My husband, son, daughter and my daughter's boyfriend think my meatloaf is the best....it is always what is requested by my daughter if she's coming home for a visit.
1 1/2 lbs ground beef or turkey
1 cup milk
1/4 tsp sage
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dried mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
3 slices of bread torn into small pieces (unless they are large slices of bread..then I use only two)
1 egg
1 clove of garlic finely chopped
1 small onion chopped (about 1/4 cup)
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
and the most important part
1 bottle of Heinz Chili Sauce
Heat oven to 350...mix everything except the chili sauce...I always make individual ones...about 8 ozs for each one that I shape into a thick flat oval....then I pour the chili sauce over each one and bake for 45 minutes.
When you make mashed potatoes.....always use Yukon Gold...for a creamy texture and throw in peeled cloves of garlic when you boil them and mash them along with the potatoes....I like to sprinkle paprika on my potatoes. :) Also...investing in a ricer is a good idea...I find that the consistency of the potatoes is much fluffier if you put the cooked potatoes/garlic through the ricer rather than hand mashing.
Wow those meatloaf recipes all sound really good! I really like yours, Muffin, but after the way I bastardized those nice "easy" mushroom appitizers you suggested a while back, well....my skill level is not up to Chef Muffin par! You could have your own cooking show. Maybe you should do that while you're recouperating! Set up a camera and do a half hour cooking show then put it on YouTube! Your 1st show could be "Muffin's with Muffin"!!
yeah I know.... shut up MAZ

ya know.....I'm not that much into the baking....that's more my sister's domain. But hey....if someone could figure out a way that I could cook while reclining........yeah....that's the ticket.
Someone come and save me from the boredom.....I want to be able to drive again....I even want to wash my floors...anything.....oh well...I guess I'll go watch Kung Fu Panda.....yes....I'm really only 5.
hey Muffin....cure your bordom by pain killers or pot and lounge! wooooo that's what i would be doing if i was recuping from surgery....eat lots of goodies too!
Painkillers....oh yeeeeeeah. Ya know I'm ALL about that real clean high lol. I tried convincing my Doc that I'm in constant pain and anguish from the chains of day to day bull****, but somehow he didn't think that was reason enough to give me any more vicodin. Damn him.
So yeah, I guess I picked the best day to take off. I looked outside after like 4 hours awake and saw it was snowing. The news says it's 18 degrees which is really funny because Tuesday it was 67.
Muffin, you can totally become the Lazyboy Chef! Have a table tray set up and your kids can bring you what you need as you need it. It can be part you cooking and part them learning! You can call it Mama Mia! Or Manga Manga! Is that how you spell Manga?
Cherry, did you get a new oven? You could have your own show too. Potted Pastries. Sweets make with pot lol!

Guvrment Warning! Eat anything I come up with at your own RISK! After seeing the meatloaf recipes on here it got me craving. Until today I have never made a meatloaf. All I know is its been a while since you cooked when you get ready to and there is a car starter sittin on the stove!
To mix it up:
1 lb of hamburger
1 lb of italian sausage
1/2 a bag of Stove Stop Stuffing
cut up onions
1 egg
a few tilts of a jar of Ragu
lots of black pepper and a lil garlic salt
Stick it in the oven at 350 for 25 minutes
pull it out and pour the rest of the Ragu on top
Stick it back in for 25 minutes more
I hope its edible cause most of my cooking really sucks!
Most definately edible but too sweet for me. With a lil less italian sausage and a lil more hamburger I probably would have enjoyed it more. Take care...Guv
My mom makes the best meatloaf in the world. No idea what's in it, but it's a HUGE hit. Personally, I like making stuff with bison. Very tasty, and healthier than beef.
