Hey Rob,
Since you posted in 3 different threads I thought it would be easier to respond to you in a new one.
Reb reads these messages so he is really the best person to respond about his tone.
However, being a Reb-fanatic I can help you with what I know about his tone
1st, Reb played on Dokken's Erase the Slate album. Jon Levin played on Lightening Strikes Again.
2nd, Reb has said many times on this forum that he uses EMGs but that he put in Dimarzios ( pretty sure ) for the Dokken years to get closer to Lynch's tone.
3rd, Voyager vs. Suhr. Reb mentioned in his Homegrown DVD that he used Voyagers predominantly for their low end. They have a mahogany body with a Koa top whereas the Suhr's are all Koa.
4th, the amp. To get Reb's current tone it does make sense to get the amp he uses which is the OD-100SE+. I have tried to show in my clip how close it sounds to the Winger IV tone.
5th, EMGs combined with tuning down 1 whole step are larger factors in how Reb sounds ( IMO )
6th, no matter how much equipment I own I will never be able to play like Reb. LOL
7th, my experiences with the Suhr model. This guitar from a playability standpoint is unmatched. Its just a fantastically engineered instrument.
8th, I would probably be willing to sell the Voyager but Javier really wants it and I'm going to give him a chance to complete a trade.
Conclusion, a Suhr RB model loaded with EMGs plus the OD100 will get you as close as possible to Reb's current tone.
Hope this helps.
Alex
