That totally sucks. We lost our K-ROCK in the Burgh a few years ago. They were the only station around here that played an awesome mix of rock and metal- old and new!

Hi Heather!!!

Alex the thought of adding yet another monthly bill to my books makes me ill.
I just can't understand how New York City/Long Island no longer has an audience for a free rock radio. I really think they could have succeeded if they hadn't played so much friggin Led Zepplin, AC/DC, and all Ozzy incarnations. It was suffocating to hear the same 20 or so songs every single time I turned the radio on. They left no room for any new music or other groups from the same era. They totally blew it. Now we have what must be the 15th Hip Hop station.
What a waste.

Ya, its pretty sad but I have hated rock radio for a long time so this is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

The thing is, rock radio outside of NY is pretty good. There is music snobbery in nY. Its probably because most of the local record industry and radio types think its only cool if a band sounds like a garage band.

Try living in Pittsburgh. It's either Top 40 or Rap, and you know what that top 40 crap is-Rap! And then ya gotcher country western stations by the dozen! Ugh! There is only one crappy rock band that they promote in this town- The Clarks- and they suck! They aren't even a good garage band!

Sheesh - all this makes Baltimore sound like BLISS. We have a good variety of rock radio, and the bands all seem to love to come here, except for (ahem) Whitesnake. Sure hope more rock radio doesn't evaporate - seems like the corporate radio execs have written off a big part of the population. Rock is still big here, though...

You guys is lucky.

We have Liberty 98.9 that'll play ~anything~...and I do mean that. Of course I'm never listening if/when they play anything like Winger or Whitesnake--I just lucked out today that they played Journey's "Separate Ways"!

Don't even mention shows. Toads Place II in Richmond just closed. :( We get two nice venues in a year and we still can't get anything.

Coolest radio station I have ever heard was in Norfolk Virginia. It was a brand new station just before I moved and they played rock n roll from all eras. One minute your listening to a seventies tune, next it was a nu-metal tune, then an eighties, it wasnt just the same ole crap youve been having forced on ya year after year! If you think radio sux where you are try living in the armpit of Florida! Skynard was a great band but Artemis Pyle is a registered sex offender! Take care...Guv
