proud

The new R.E.M. single, leaving new york, has that line in the chorus, "leaving was never my proud." I think it's a weak lyric. Proud can't be a noun. I think stipe got lazy. He should have worked a little harder to find a decent line there, because it sticks out and sounds stupid. Decent song, though.
Have you heard the new album? You can listen to the whole thing at www.remhq.com. Seems good. Songs are either mid-tempo or slower, nothing really rocks, but there's some nice stuff. I think I'm going to buy it. It might sound better when it's not coming out of my tiny computer speakers with no bass.

Ah... I'll probably grab the record just to stay consistant since I have all the others. You going to try catching them with the political tour?

vote for change

I was thinking the same thing. I want to keep my R.E.M. collection complete, so I'll probably buy it. I didn't see them on the vote for change tour. Kathy and Todd (Philly) and Jim (D.C.) saw the shows, though, and really liked them. Bruce sang on Man on the Moon, Peter played guitar on Born to Run. Sounded very cool. Kathy and Todd raved about John Fogarty in particular. I guess Fortunate Son is a pretty timely song right about now. World Leader Pretend is also very appropriate.

This is my world, and
I am world leader pretend.
This is my life, and
This is my time.
I have been given the freedom to do as I see fit.
It's high time I razed the walls that I've
Constructed.
It's amazing what devices you can sympathize
This is my mistake. Let me make it good.
I raised the wall and I will be the one to knock it down.
You fill in the mortar.
You fill in the harmony.
You fill in the mortar.
You fill in the harmony.
I raised the wall and I am the only one, I will be the one to knock it down.

- Berry, Buck, Mills, Stipe

leaving was never my proud

Interesting lyrics, never put them together with the current situation. Nice work, stout yeoman.

Got the new REM yesterday, half listened to it over dinner and on the way to work today. So far so good but much of the same, nothing earth shattering if you will. Wish PB would start playing the guitar again. Also looked up the word "proud" hoping there would be another unknown definition that would justify putting it in the tune like that. N.
