Let's share other collectibles that we pursue. I collect WW2 era War cards & WW2 comics. Here's one of my best ones:
Just wondering if anyone here also collects comic books. My best childhood memories are of buying packs of cards, building card sets plus reading & collecting runs of comic books.

Comic books. Another example of an art form that went through a Golden Age and then passed into a vastly inferior era, drastically worse than non sport cards, though. Collecting them means you understand that you are collecting something that never was produced to last a long time. I admire your courage.
How do you feel about pulp art and pulp fiction ? Some years ago I decided to try and restore pulp
art just with my own small resources. I have restored at least 1,000 images. Here is an example,
I call this one 'Saturday Night':

Moustache cups,spoons,guards,combs and curling ions.
This was my main collecting interest for 30 years.
Non-sports cards was my next,so backed off the moutache
things (no space left) and cards take up less space.
This is why I ask so many card questions, I picked up so
many odd ball cards,so now I can learn from this Chat Board.

Jerry started a post that should have been stimulating.
I couldn't understand why so few posted to it.
..then it hit me...could it be we all collect something along side
....NS that we are sort of embarrassed to share with others ?
So I'll start by opening up my soul, and hope other follow suit.
I love collecting the MUTROSCOPE<sp> GALS exhibits. When in a
down mood, all I have to do is pick up the small group (100)
and go through them. After just a few minutes, my motor is running
like it did when I opened my early Topps and early Bowman. I then
return to the NS world of collecting.
Ok, guys jump in...it's easy...really it is....

In response to Dan's last post, I have to admit that I collect toys! Most of what I have are ones that I received as Christmas Gifts growing up in the late 1950's and early 1960's. My Dad was certainly not a wealthy man and often struggled to make ends meet. Regardless, he always seemed to be able to make Christmas a special occasion for us four boys. Unfortunately, my original toys were either given away or discarded as I grew older. I have had to rely on Toy Shows (and more recently) Ebay to recapture this part of my youth. As Dan mentioned, I often just look at them and recall many fond memories. In the scans below, I have shown a few of my favorites.

For most of us, the collecting bug often reaches other pursuits. In February 2005 I simply wanted to obtain a few of the Hot Wheels I had as a kid. That list expanded to the checklist found on the back of most packages, which expanded to variations of the a particular car, very hard to find foreign issues, prototypes, etc. I now have 653 cars ranging from $2 to $3500. Much like the card world, Hot Wheels has it's National Conventions, forums, newsletters, etc. One of the foremost experts of the hobby, Mike Strauss of Belmont, CA, is also a NS collector. So I toggle between the metal, sportscards and NS. With three Ebay IDs, three email accounts and five collector forums, I guess I like hobbies.

I guess some accumulations eventually become collections. I have all my original Beatles and Stones 45's and albums from the 60's with sleeves and covers, and they are well played, I assure you. A horde of wooden fishing plugs and early flies from 1970's tag sales. Old bottles I've dug from hundred year old dumps plus minerals and fossils gathered thru-out New York and New England on pre-kid weekend excursions. Not collections I add to, just happen to still have. More recently, I have a collection of about 600 domain names which i began in 1999.

Years ago, it was battery op toys, most now sold or given to my kids; sport cards - 95% gone only shiny is left; starting lineups - still have about 150 unopened any interest from anybody?; wheaties boxes about 125 - 150 different styles mostly sports figures on them (lots of Michael Jordan); and the unforgettable beanie babies about 100 my wife and I collected together.
Thank goodness my house isn't any bigger or I'd probably collect more things I don't need.

Great example of a pulp art picture. Extremely PC incorrect because of all the cigarette smoking shown. Don't know if anyone else has noticed but PSA is PC with Horror of War cards. Whenever Gum Inc. uses the term "JAP or JAPS" PSA inevitably substitues "JAPANESE" Here's an example:
FRONT WITH PSA LABEL
BACK AS NAMED BY GUM INC.
Always gives me a chuckle.

Well, my primary interest is non-sport stuff. But I did collect other things in the past with similar vigor:
Postage Stamps (still have most of these but only buy something new when I like it)
Beer Cans (these are all still in my mother's attic - I think! I sold the cone tops and flattops years ago but still have probably over 1,000 cans. Anyone know what the "Pale Stale Ale with the Foam on the Bottom" is?)
Comic Books (Had several thousand including Marvel Timely comics from the 1940's, EC comics, and tons of Silver Age super hero stuff. Most have gone to supply funds for the non-sport collection but I still have several boxes of oddball and independent titles from the 1980's)
Space Toys (all gone)
The Rocketeer Collection (I had a great collection but again it went away to fund cards)
The Tick Collection (Toys and comics on "The Tick" superhero - "SPOON!" - all gone)
Plastic Cereal Toys (The little plastic figures from the late 1960's and 1970's like "Freakies" and other R&L figures. I still have some of these.)
Mars Attacks (Anything having to do with Mars Attacks. I have a website that I haven't updated in a while that I never got around to adding pictures to but at least you can see a list if you want.)

Plastic model and diecast Pontiac GTO's
Automobile records (78, 45 and 33 RPM)
Pontiac and Oakland original literature
My card collection is automobiles and motorcycles
Erector sets
John Deere tractors
Western books
I once started a collection of pictures of deceased presidents in green frames, but was unable to maintain the collection!

My main collecting focus is vintage sports memorabilia (with a particular eye to early 20th century baseball pinbacks, unused baseballs, programs and other ephemera), with non-sports cards coming in next.
As I noted some months ago, I really got the bug to collect mail-away cereal and candy premiums. Such items as the Capt Video Flying Saucer ring from Powerhouse candy; the baking powder frogmen and submarine, Tom Corbett Space Cadet goggles from Kellogg's; Sgt Preston Gold Ore Detector and others from Quaker Oats have made it into my collection.
The list goes on and on. I wonder if anyone on the board collects such items. Always interested in trades and buying premiums that I need. Sorry for the shameless plug!! Oh by the way, nonsports still have a special place in my heart!

It'd be easier to answer the question "what don't you collect?" but some of the bigger interests apart from non-sports cards are comic books, anything dealing with the 1906-1910 Chicago Cubs (you know, our "glory years"...sigh...), Britain's toy soldiers, although that pretty much ran its course and I'm also a fanatic of the Bullwinkle cartoons, so lots of toys and stuff related to him and Rocky.

While I sell a lot of different cards etc, I collect very little of this area, the conflict was too much.
So now I just collect, tobacco coupons, an N-series type set, Victorian Smut, books, and postcards of Hopewell, NJ and Beverley UK.
Plus as mentioned by a previous poster, I still have all my vinyl albums from the 60s/70s. Ones that hold distinct memories for me are framed and on the wall.
I've been fortunate over the last few years to attend some concerts of the (aging!) rock and folk stars of my youth and start to get them to autograph some of the album covers.
Currently got Joan Baez, Al Stewart, Donovan, Judy Collins.

Well, I used to be a coin collector. But then it got worse.
Eventually my addiction evolved into the depths of early one cent pieces.
The truth is that I only now collect one cent coins of one year.
But the truth also is that it is far worse than that.
I only collect 1794 US One Cent pieces from a specific mating of dies
among the many die sets used that year by the Mint in Philadelphia.
And what I collect here is a set
which shows the degredation (wear) of this die pairing. That is, the
progression of cracks in the die and other deterioration.
It sounds insane to me, when I admit it. But I know that all of you are
sitting on the edge of your chairs thinking "tell me more, Gil".
I am also a serial collector of special interest (to me) vehiches.
Some over the past few decades have included a '66 Chevelle, a '49 GMC 3/4T p/u, and currently a '67 Mustang - not yet road worthy.
I collect baseball cards, selecting cards which portray interesting occurances in the sport, each year. So things like Babe Ruth hitting 60 hrs in 1927 would ideally be represented by a 1927 Ruth card.
I have other things which I formerly accumulated but no longer try to acquire additional pieces. These include baseball and other board games, 45 + 78 RPM records from the 50s & '60s, ViewMasters and reels,
and lots of other stuff; some of it kinda weird.
Like independent research into chemical analytical (sometimes instrumental)
method identification and development, some artsy stuff involving metal joining and design. And accumulation and reading of reference materials
on all of the above.

Tom, I have never posted a picture, but I will learn how to. I have tried, and I will succeed in this too. Why not? Gary W's daughter can do it, and my IQ has not yet degraded to her age. But I may never be able to accurately photograph a coin. For some reason, people seem to have difficulty with that.
However, if you simply have a curiousity regarding what I am looking at; this site is a good place to tour. It has way more there than there seems at first. Enjoy.
I collect thunderbirds stuff from the 60's. The supermarionation puppet show from England, getting harder by the year. Gerry Anderson (the writer)has a huge following. I have 5 FAB 1's (pink rolls royce by dinky) 4 thunderbird 2's (green by dinky) 2 of the rarer blue ones. A plastic thunderbird 3 a battery operated thunderbird 2, a set of the somportex cards B/W LARGE. A Gerry Anderson autobiography (signed). And a lady penelope doll,a lady penelope play set............and the list goes on.

For many years my father was president of the firm that handled the Academy's public relations, so he and my mom got to go every year to the Oscars. As a result I ended up with a small collection of tickets from the Oscars which I inevitably expanded on.

I still occasionally collect T206 baseball cards, but they are becoming
more and more expensive for the rare back types. Once in a while I'll
collect a world Series team, like the 1994 Pinnacle Foil Blue Jays, or
T205 minis Red Sox w. Drum backs just for fun.
At one time or another I've collected/owned/played many different guitars,
a burgundy red 1966 Gibson SG, a 1972 Les Paul Custom, a Peavy T60 (looked
like a Strat) which I had all pinstriped like Eddie Van Halens' guitar,
an Ibanez XV, a red BC Rich, and various Marshall and Mesa-Boogie Amplifier
stacks. I still play these days and currently own a tobacco color BC Rich
Sunfire, and play an 80's vintage Boston Rockman XP 100W head which is an
amazing amplifier!
Needless to say there are lots of vintage rock CDs around the house,
and still a few old vinyl LPs.
I collect/raise birds. Currently have rare variety Cockatiels. One
of the males talks and can whistle a few Christmas tunes - Jingle Bells
and The Herald Angel Sings! I have a yellow Lutino, a Pearl/Pied pair,
a Whiteface Pair, a pure Whiteface hen, and a Whiteface/fallow w. red eyes.
Have some D&D miniatures based on the fantasy art of Larry Elmore/Keith Parkinson
and on a rainy day (it rains here a lot), me and my son will get a board game out
on the coffee table. They are 2" high painted pewter miniatures. Knights, skeletons,
wizards, treaure, that sort of thing.
Also collect some 1:35 scale WW2 DieCast Armoured Vehicles, and a little bit of
N Scale railway related to WW2 Armoured trains, have a BR50 Engine, a Leopold Railgun,
some Armoured train pieces.
I collect a 'lot of stuff' , don't I!

I collect Nebraska related baseball memorabilia with an emphasis on the Lincoln minor league teams and Guy Green's Nebraska Indians (Barnstormers). I used to collect anything and everything baseball card and memorabilia related, but have found it is much more rewarding to focus on one area.
Here's a shot of some of my Nebraska Indians memorabilia
