Well it's a complete set and in excellent condition and I think nineteenth century poker and playing cards are HOT right now. The person that won the auction you are referencing won a Diadem SF Hess Creole poker hand card from me last night - I sold two of them for $178.

but he/she has to be one of the most advanced card deck collectors on the planet..........I watch what they win and it's a LOT of VERY tough decks of cards and very tough N-cards as well. Just take a look..........

On another note, I'm sure the seller was REALLY surprised by that $2900 final hammer price.

I agree Tom. Cryptocard has certainly earned my fear and respect.
Have lost numerous bids to him. Quite a hunter and collector.

When a tough N-type comes up, I put in what I can afford and only about 5% of the time do I win it. I'd say on about 1/2 of what I don't win, he's there! Kind of like Seinfeld saying 'Neuman!', it's like 'Cryptocard!'. I hear he lives in NYC and has a great collection...........you can only imagine.......

is the only set of NS related playing cards I've not seen sold as a complete set in all my years of looking. Singles sell @ premium over any of the others - sometimes as much as 50. a card. The cards look pristine - I've never seen the premium/offer card - it was some lot and I would have figured 2000. about right. As for Cryptocard - he's left a lot of broken hearts on eBay . Dan - as for the Creole poker cards - they are tough as well - like all S.F.Hess "stuff" - and have always sold well. I figured 50. each but only the shadow knows..... Honestly I haven't seen a significant rise in poker related NS (I follow playing cards-cigar boxes/labels-tins-advertising signs-etc..); something I'm a bit surprised about. Perhaps it's because the poker world belongs to the young and aggressive players - and non-sports and advertising belongs to the old and infirmed. I truly believe that it's one area that WILL grow and appreciate in the future - just hasn't quite happened yet.

Cryptocard has a spectacular collection of Jokers as well.
