T51's ???

Can anybody give me some history or information on the Murad T51 College set?
I know the set has 150 cards in 6 series with the first 50 cards reproduced to make up the 2nd edition. That's about all I know.
Are some cards more scarce than others? Is the last series a short printed series?
Any help would be appreciated. I only need (20) more cards to complete this set if anyone could help me out in that area also.
Thanks Chad

From observation, it appears that the Series 126-150 cards are tougher than the others and I'd say the 101-125's are a bit scarcer as well. All are relatively common compared to most other T-series sets and appear regularly on eBay.

I've never studied whether the Series 1-25 and 26-50 2nd edition cards are tougher than the originals - anyone have any insight?

You can also find Series 1-25 cards with numbers on them (lower right) - these seem to be a bit scarcer than the unnumbered variety.

I have been working on a master set and in my experience, Second Edition cards are more common.

Alan can you tell me exactly what a master set is?
Is it a set of highly graded cards?

Chad, a 'master set' is one which includes all commonly-known, systematic variation groups.  (Condition of the cards is irrelevant.)

Lately a favorite we've been discussing on this board has been R114 US Caramel Presidents, a good example of this.  R114 came in red, orange and blue background versions, with portraits of the presidents of the USA.   While a normal set would typically have one card for each president, regardless of background color, a master set would have a card for each president, in each color (ie, three times as large as a normal set).

Ralph thanks for the reply. I've been collecting sportscards and non-sportscards since I was 9 and never understood that.

So what your telling me is that a T51 master set would contain 200 cards?

And my T206 Cubs set which contains 36 different players and poses would need every brand of tobacco on the back of each card!

I think that would mean somthing like 576 cards just for the master set of Cubs!

Thanks again for you response.

Chad

Chad, probably "King of the Master Sets" is the one Dan Calendriello is building for Zoom Airplanes.  I forget the exact details, but the math is something like 175 cards times 5 or 6 backgrouind color variations, plus or minus . . .  Dan?

T51 Master Set

The T51 Master set contains 225 cards:
- 1-150 base cards
- 1-50 Second Edition
- 1-25 with small sequence number

This set is less complicated than many T-card sets because there is a single brand and a single factory number. The opposite extreme is in T59 Flags of All Nations where the master set has 7267 cards (7717 if you accept certain color variations as genuine.)

Ralph is right that condition does not matter in terms of completing the set, but upgrading is a constant pursuit.
