R109 vs. R124 theme- pirate's/buccaneers
Both set's from the 30s PP by Gum Inc. and SR by Goudey (high's WWG)
This is a tough question to answer, as I like both set's.
Curious to hear board members reasons for their favorite.

They represent two of my favorite sets of all time. Can't say I really have a preference. If someone put a gun to my head I would go with Goudey's SRers.

I like the artwork on the SR's better although technically it's probably about the same. I think the coloring on the SR's is so much stronger I guess..........

Love the artwork's brilliant colors and Bobby's blue strip.
Although I also like PPBG, one of the great gum sets of the 1930s, I do hate the cardstock. Have never seen another quite so prone to such bad age-toning.

I like the Sea Raiders set, and admit to being partial to most Goudey/WWG issues.
In addition, I predict that the price of Sea Raiders is about to go through the roof! I base this on the fact that I'm seriously considering making this my next set to collect and whatever I start to buy instantly seems to double in price.

I just sold about 14 WWG SR on ebay, low numbers, they did quite well for low grade cards. Although they were low grade most did not have creases, the reason is that they are so bloody thick, probably the thickest card I have ever seen.
Great set to put together and the colors truly rival anything of its era!
Just my two cents worth.

Jim, if you DO decide to go after this issue (and I heartily endorse this!), then you should decide right away whether to pursue the master set . . .
Boston backs 1-24;
Montreal backs 1-48 both in single language text (English) and bilingual text (English and French); and
'Printed in USA' and 'Printed in Canada' variations on backs ( but I don't recall how many more cards that adds to the master set -- need to go consult my NSB.)
Needless to say, it's a challenge.
I've been plugging away at a master for a while now . . . And recall that Dan McKee, the great baseball card collector/dealer, has either completed his master set or is extremely close.
