5-4mc
6-3
7-4
8-3
9-1
10-3.5
11-3
12-3
13-4
13-5 extra-missing print variation.

16-1
17-4

I would like your opinions on what I can expect to clear through a major auction house for this set. All cards are ledgible front and back. This question is to see if I can at least get my money invested back.

Thank You!
Long time lurker/student.

Scot

Hey, Sgt Hoss!!!!  Welcome.

To all and sundry, Scot here is the KING OF DARE DEVIL COLLECTORS.  Just as the rest of us might pick up an extra loaf of bread at the grocery story on the way home, Scot completes Dare Devil sets!

Scot, you pose an interesting question and I would initially hesitate to venture a guess.  Here's why:

A graded Dare Devils set should usually command serious value.  And most everything on Mastro, etc., does tend to sell for a multiple of what one would expect, anyway (God bless 'em!).  So all this works in your favor of getting a great price on a scarce set.  But offsetting all that is the fact that many of the cards are lower grade, so overall the set may not attract a premium price, typically driven by 'slabbed' collectors seeking cards high in the registry hierarchy.

You might check that website that has the database from all the major auction houses, and see how past sets went?

Scot,

First off, complete sets are rarely offered. And when singles appear on Ebay, the very high majority are under ex condition. Last summer Mastro offered a complete graded set with a GPA of 6.71, that set sold for 10K w/bp. I'm sure many collectors drooled over that set, wishing they owned it. In addition to Ralph's points, I'd also like to add, this set could have much appeal to collectors having a DD set on their wish list (only takes 2 motivated bidders) that couldn't afford the high graded Mastro set. To answer your question, I'd say 2800.00 is in the ballpark. Good luck whatever you decide.

I've had some good advise, opinions and an offer via public & private emails. The offer and opinions are all over the place in price. I want to sell through a major auction house. With the replies I received, I would say this set is much more popular than when I started collecting them.

Ralph,
I appreciate the King of Dare Devils comment but, I'm small time when it comes to this sets high grade collectors. I seem to get what they allow me to buy (always at least third in line and $$ ). You can see a few high grade examples in the pop-reports but, rarely (to never) see them for sale.

Richard,
The high grade R39 set that sold through Mastro last year has been broke-up. Some of the singles were sold later for much more money from what I'm told.

Thanks to All for the help!

Scot,
I know my estimate was on the conservative side, but if you got a private offer of let's say 5K take it . Another venue that crossed my mind was Hake's. They deal in all sorts of vintage collectibles including cards. I've been a bit surprised in how high some of their card lots have sold in prior auctions. Here is a Dare Devil lot they sold a couple months back. Eight cards, all lows including 2 #1 cards(very tough to find above vg) in the vg-ex range for 2K.

Wow, That's quite a price for eight Dare Devils cards...
The #1 card (plus a few more) is always on my wantlist, tough to obtain in vg or better indeed.
