Hello, i am a baseball collector, but I am also a car dealer and picked these up at a local auction. Is anybody familiar with these? I also picked up a stack of I think 61 topps cars cards wich include some airplanes. I f someone could give me an idea on the year and value of these that would be great!

John Hardgrove is the undisputed heavyweight champion of car cards. I'm sure he'll see this or you can do a search on his name and find his email from that. I think the cards you picture are 1965 Topps cards maybe...........

Vanessa--If you are looking for car cards from the period the best deal is on 1954-55 World on Wheels cards. Even high grade cards go for small prices as there were some large finds of unopened material several years back. This is the only series I know of where you can pick up PSA 10's, if you were so disposed, for under $200 and PSA 8's for under $25.

Vanessa - you are correct that these are from the 1961 Topps Sports Car series. There were two different colored (paper) backs: white and gray. Yours are the gray version. This is a 66 card set, or with the 2 different backs 132 cards.

Value??? Who knows. They are not scarce, or even rare, in mint condition. There was a warehouse find of them in Chicago about 15 years ago.

We have been offered several near mint or mint sets (raw).

The NSB specifies values for most cards in the $3. range; with cards 1, 32 (checklist) and 66 all being higher. Set price is listed as $240. These prices seem reasonable.

Of course, one could always submit the cards to one's favorite grading company, and then offer them on Ebay at $79.95 each (I have seen them for that!). That plastic holder is very valuable. ☺

The real value in the set were the license plate stickers that were packaged with the cards. They will generally bring in the $10.~25. range depending on condition, although NSB shows them at $12. each.

Jon.
