Okay.....Not the National Transportation Safety Board.....
We've got 1930's and 1950's boxes floating around.........
Lots of us like a little older stuff, so........
Been thinking about a box of stuff to include:
N cards - 19th Century Tobacco
T cards - 20th Century Tobacco
S cards - Silks
B cards - Blankets
L cards - Leathers
Since I've collected these for a LONG time, I'll be glad to start off the box with 50 cards from the areas above. Like has been said on some of the other threads, I'm going to try to put VG to VGEX cards in there--relatively clean stuff. I'm just posting here to gauge interest in this, so post here if you wanna join the fracas. Can't have too many boxes floating around out there, huh?

I'd certainly be interested in a box with the various tobacco issues. Any chance of us starting boxes with local beers or maybe cigars? (Wink! Wink! Nudge! Nudge!)

Local beers sound good, but shipping may be a killer.
So, when you assemble 50, I will pick them up personally.
And after appropriate sampling, bring the remainder to my house,
add to it, and await the arrival of the next person on the list.

I have sufficient pre-1930 t-cards for one round, Tom. So yes, please include me on your list. And once I see what the cards look like in person, hoo nose what could follow.
So in summary: yes, yes, please include me in your most excellent adventure!

once - for the greater good. I will be putting some in - no desire to take any out. Not sure how it works - but perhaps after everyone what's interested has what they wants - we can do an eBay auction for a charity with what's left. If needed I would do the listing. Whatever...............

some emails to participants to email me their addresses privately and I was going to put a list of participant's addresses in the box to hopefully speed up the process a little.
I'm also going to include E's in the NTSB&L, so it's now the NTSB&LE box, or I could go with BLENTS to make some sort of word...............
Anyway..........I have 42/50 of the cards together and will have the box out to Bob Kuhl by Wednesday this week. I have Bob's address from the 1930's box trips, so I'll be using that. The box composition, at the 42/50 is about 60% 'N' cards, with the rest being T's, S's, L's pretty even. There may be a couple B's in there but otherwise, there will be the rest in E's. SO...........it is what it is and it'll be out UPS by Wednesday.
Thanks for the participation of the group. We can always add more people down the road if anyone wants to participate but it'll be especially easy to add you before Wednesday if you want to be added. Email me your address prior to then and I'll include it inside the box.
Thanks!
Tom

is FINALLY on the way! I sent it out today to Bob Kuhl. It'll probably be to Bob by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. Inside is a paper with all the addresses of the participants minus one that I didn't have. That should keep it flowing pretty quickly. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as the 1930's and 1950's box.
Would have been out sooner but we got hit with Hurricane Ike here WAY up in Kentucky on Sunday and had about 300K people without electricity. Ours was only out a couple days but it's still a mess up here............

Got the box today and pulled a few and replaced a few. It's already repacked for Todd. I should get it out tomorrow. I'm not too far from you Todd, so you should get it pretty quickly.

I got the box yesterday. Who put that "Marquis of Lorne" card in there? I was going to take that one but it was too high a grade. It wouldn't go with the rest of my tobacco collection. Anyway, lots of fun stuff in there. I swapped out about a dozen or so and will throw in a few extras. I will ship it off tomorrow.

Sorry..i should have posted this on Monday. The package was returned to me this past Monday. Somehow, the shipping label was unreadable by the Post Office. The label got wet and smeared. The cards are fine no damage to them. I sent the box back out this morning. Sorry about all this...

I have been collecting tobacco items for more than 15 years and would like to join. Am I right in understanding that you receive the box, take out the items you want and replace with tobacco items of similar quality? Any limit on how many you swap?
Thanks,
Robert Baum

yep..........box comes to you, open it, take out what you want and put at least in the same amount of cards or a couple extra if you want to. Once it makes the rounds, we'll probably recirculate it again. There are similar 1930's and 1950's boxes floating around out there. Has proven to be kind of cool so far. Glad to have you on board....................

and is being mailed to Jon today I put 30+ in - took 1 out..... My name is Mr. M. and I'm an addict. There. I feel better. I resisted taking the small Northwestern with basketball - and it's presence guilted me into putting a couple better but softer cards in. Long live the box!
(edited to add I wasn't bragging in any way about what I left - it appears most people were WAYYYYY more generous than I)

This should not be construed as a complaint, rather as information for future shippings by others. Since Bob had a p.o. box, I mailed the box. UPS would have been less by $4.20; and (MOO), much better service. If a complete address is given, the shipper can make the determination.
Jon.

Just curious to where the box is currently. Just want to make sure I didn't miss it if it was mailed to my house. There has not been a post for a few months, so I thougth I'd give it a bump.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the bump.............
I'm now in possession of it in the last week or so since Robert Baum didn't respond. It came to me from Marty Krim. I'll be refurbing it a little and sending it back out according to this list. If ANYONE wants to be added or removed, please let me know or post in this post. It'll go out by the end of the week to Bob Kuhl at the latest.........
It's well over the 50 cards it started with approaching 100 or more I'm sure. Condition has dipped a little bit on it from the VG to VGEX it started with.

I just got the T-card box yesterday. However, the handy dandy address list wasn't in it. Whoever is next, please email me and I'll get the box on its way.

Shot an email to Gil to check-in, and it bounced.
This doesn't sound good (part about user account 'overquota', suggests inbox filled up to overflowing and not being checked):

His name came up on the baseball board yesterday. I emailed him and it bounced back. Mailer-Daemon said his "User account is overquota."
Someone else said he'd been posting on the Full Count boards recently. I checked and he has not posted there since May 15th. Two months seems like a long time for one of us "addicts" to be MIA.
I hope everything is all right. Anyone have a phone number to call him? I thought I did, but it turns out I'm less organized than I thought.

I never seem to remember - please remove me from the list. Not that I don't want to play with you'se guys - I put as much as I could in the last box - and I'm not collecting much in this area anymore. It just means the box will get to interested parties even faster than before.........

I have the package ready for shipment, but I didn't get the mailing list inside the box. Bob Forbes is next in line, so Bob if you could email me your address, I will get the box moving...
Thanks
Dave

The box arrived a week or two ago, but without the list of names. I think Alan Miley is next to get it after me. It's been pretty gutted - I'm in the process of re-stocking it to give it some new life. I'll try to get it out after Christmas to Alan (unless someone else knows who is next?)

I am disappointed to hear that it has been gutted. I believe for this to work best, people should put in a little more value than they take out. I will try to give it an additional boost.
