Last November collectors voted for their favorite 1950s/60s sets.
I am pleased and proud that ALL those favorite sets currently
reside at The Gallery.
This Sunday, we will showcase those sets in The Gallery in one
webpage, something like "Collector's Favorite Sets - 1950s/60s"
================================================================
During this month - September 2008, I ask you to vote for your
10 favorite sets of the 1930s/1940s. On September 30th, we
will attempt to showcase them all in yet another
"Collector's Favorite Sets - 1930s/40s" webpage.
================================================================
I call upon the "resident statistician", Richard Lapointe, to
keep track and post stats on September 30th or thereabouts.
================================================================
If any of the TOP TEN are not at the Gallery, we will pull our
collecting resources to get one set up.
================================================================
Voting starts now, September 8th. http://www1.coe.neu.edu/~dan/z-ns-start/all-1930.html

10? I only get to vote for 10? I have more than 20.

Okay, then I guess it has to be these 10:
Foreign Legion
World In Arms
Beautiful Ships
Pulver Pictures
First Column Defenders
Time Marches On
Dare Devils
Defending America
Pirate Pictures
Sea Raiders
I really think the 30s and the 40s should be separate categories. If they were, I'd vote for these 20:
1930s
Foreign Legion
World In Arms
Beautiful Ships
Pulver Pictures
Time Marches On
Dare Devils
Pirate Pictures
Sea Raiders
Wild West (R172)
True Spy Stories
(Honorable Mention - Golden West, Jolly Roger, Strange True Stories)
1940s
First Column Defenders
Defending America
Action Gum
Commando Rangers
Allies In Action
Uncle Sam
America At War
America Salutes The FBI
U.S. Navy Warships
Leaf Pirates

Hope I didn't ruffle your feathers. My apologies if I did. Like everyone else, I'm very appreciative of all your efforts. I am always amazed how much time you spend scanning, cropping, and creating the gallery pages.
I just had a tough time picking 10 sets from the 30s and 40s combined. I wasn't actually suggesting you need to do more work.
Best Wishes,
Alan

a) So far, least likely to file some grievance with the Teamsters (an unruly bunch)
b) Geographically, the farthest away (won't rat me out when I take a long lunch)
c) The easiest to do a employee evaluation for (clearly a 6 out of 6)
d) Not prone to crying on me for some b.s.
e) Easiest to shop for at Christmas
f) Far and away, the most prolific html generator I've ever supervised
Probably more I'll think of later.......
As for the point at hand......being as Dan is the instigator of me having to collect 1930's cards..........
Not in any order........
1) HOW
2) BION
3) G-Men
4) First Column Defenders
5) Battleship Gum
6) Indian Gum
7) Pulver
8) Shelby Fighting Planes
9) Sea Raiders
10) Sky Birds

Easy to choose the top few, but tougher toward the end of my list (quite a few sets tried to force their way into my personal Top Ten but didn't make it.) Chose these based on both the level of personal affection for the set as well as the amount of collecting enjoyment I've gotten from them:
Indian Gum
G-Men & Heroes of the Law
Nat Chicle Skybirds
Horrors of War
Lone Ranger
Dick Tracy
Sea Raiders
Pulver Pictures
Frank Buck
Mickey Mouse Gum

I am so pleased to see so many collectors that have posted.
The deadline runs through September 30th.
I realize it's so hard to get to TEN...
So we will continue with the voting of your favorite TEN, but the
Collector's Favorite 30s and 40s webpage will show two areas
1. THE TOP TEN
2. An 11-20 area.
I realize the 11-20 area could be skewed because of this method, but
remember, someone (Richard) has to document the totals.
TEN is still an appropriate, albeit tough, number.
Thank you, all....
Thank you

Very difficult to narrow down to 10, my 11-20 could be in the top 10 next week and vice-versa. I'm putting my 10 in ACC numerical order from low to high as to make tabulating easier (hint, hint those who haven't can edit)
T12-T13 Bridge Game Hands
R59 American Beauties
F277-1 & F277-2 Heinz Famous Airplanes (are these even different sets?)
F277-4 Heinz Famous Air Pilots (Aviators)
R100 Noah's Ark
R78 Jungle Gum
R50 First Column Defenders
R44 Don't Let It Happen Over Here

I'd like to see some sets which lie just a little outside of the beaten path. Ones such as Leader Novelties R3 Adventures of the Army, Navy and Marines; Dixie's F6: Defend America, Fighting Forces, America Attacks, and UN at War; as well as somewhat obscure issues including sets such as the Home Defense Series of Quaker Oats' Commander Sparks.
But I know that there are still gaps in the sets of more mainstream interest, to deal with first.
