Some of the lots final prices could be described as a fire sale. Could it be due to the economy? Here are some examples.

lot 1722 Heinz wall map 900

lot 1732 HOW graded lot of 11 w/#240 200

lot 1789 Swift Space uncut sheet of 12(comp. set) w/window display 450 - In my opinion this was by far the best deal of all non-sport lots.

Way to go Dan, once you hang that wall hanger on your wall could you post a digital pic on the forum. Make sure you hang it high enough so Lacey doesn't have a midnight snack

In that one room or each wall in the entire house? Hmmm, you could start your own business, Heinz wall hanger wallpaper!

All of the display boxes (and a few other lots) in yesterday's Mastro auction were mine from 20 years of collecting. Due to personal issues, I'm forced to liquidate most of my stuff in yesterday's and December's Mastro Auctions. Yes, more than 60% of the items went for less than I paid for them---but I knew that going in because of the rotten economy we're currently saddled with. I only hope that those who won the items are as nuts about them as I was because--to me---collecting is the fun part---and always has been---not "How much money can I make?" Although, I must admit I wouldn't have minded a few more of "Wow, I can't believe I got that much for it!"---but I'll quit belly-achin' because I hope to someday get back into it---but not with the "I have to have it all" philosophy that I eventually adopted.
Note: A few of the boxes are the exact ones pictured in the Benjamin Books---I always thought that was rather cool---Nobody else in my house shared that view but...

thanx and take care--
non-sports nut,
Denis

Denis,
Just want to let you know I always appreciated your humor sprinkled throughout your Wrapper ads and looking forward to your return so you can sell me a Mars Attacks display box in 2018

Thanx Richard for your kind remarks.
Actually, that is one of the items I refuse to give up---so start saving now in case I ever am forced to change my mind---and thanx again for enjoying my subtle sarcasm.

I was disappointed in the soft prices, but knowing you won it makes my day Dan.

I agree with those who think many of the final prices were "quite a bargain". I know of 1 collector who would have bid higher on some of those lots.

Here's one that baffles me:

1720 1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" #196 "Chinese Guerrillas Slaughter ..." - PSA NM-MT 8
$2,000.00

1730 1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" #196 "Chinese Guerrillas ..." - PSA NM-MT 8
$250.00

???

hi mark- you collect the h.o.w. as i do, can you understand the prices the past year for psa 8's?? i cant add a single 1 because of the crazy $$$ rather i refuse to pay up is better explanation. you show 2 of the same in psa 8 one for $2k the other for $250 whats what?? is one an ebay sale?

edited to add: i think the prices were "very" soft on certain items, sorry i didnt bid. dan c got a nice deal, i thought $1,500 for sure. nice dan.

denis k- i second richard's sentiments......i remember when you won that mars box, had to be 6 years ago at least. if i am thinking of the right guy?? wich i think i am..

Mark,
I noticed the same thing on the HOW psa 8 cards. Some cards went for 7-8 x more than others in the same grade. This happened for only one reason, the psa registry collectors. I think it's well worth for any raw collector to submit a low pop card in high grade and get a great price and replace that card with another raw card 1-2 grades lower(that will still have great eye appeal) at a tiny fraction of the auction price.

Hello to All .

I noticed that some of the lots went for ' bargain ' prices , i noticed the Uncle Sam and Uncle Sams Home Defence went for what i consider a great buyers price (Lot 1741) $475 .

Both of those HOW #196 PSA 8's were in the just concluded Mastro auction (& only 10 lots apart):

Lot: 1720 1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" #196 "Chinese Guerrillas Slaughter ..." - PSA NM-MT 8
$2,000.00

Lot: 1730 1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" #196 "Chinese Guerrillas ..." - PSA NM-MT 8
$250.00

edited to add:

Where is the $1750 difference:

Mark, this one is baffling. I can't understand why the underbidder on the first one pushed it that high when the second one actually had better centering and 1750.00 less ?

Generally, WONDERFUL "pre-Thanksgiving bargain sale" on old nonsports stuff . . . at least, great for us buyers, sorry on the other hand to our friendly consignors.

There wasn't much in this auction that I needed, but did get one or two highly desired items and was absolutely delighted with the prices!

(Amigo Denis, regrets to hear that you are clearing out your stuff and looking forward to your return, in due course.  And pleased to read your comments that you have the correct frame of mind re this stuff we all collect -- it's about finding and having, not about liquidating and getting rich, tho that's always a nice surprise if it happens . . . )

As of now, in the bank balance of the winner of lot #1720.

Soon, in the "Revenue" line of Mastro's P&L.

Why would mastro put two identical cards in the same sale ? Seems a bit awkward to me. The second consigner got killed and that was Mastros fault in my opinion.

Denis: I just wanted to add my appreciation for all you have done to keep The Wrapper afloat all these years and for the humor in your ads. Very sorry to hear your ads won't be there, but good luck to you and hope to see you back in the collecting world when you're able to be there.
