R72 I'm Going To Be,R114 Caramel Heroes,R172 Wild West are a few of the redemption sets of the 30s. These 3 sets all had a holdout card, so claiming the prize was nearly impossible. Now enter R181 Darby's Picture Puzzle cards from the Darby Candy Co. of Baltimore. I can't say for sure if this set included a holdout card, but receiving that prepaid box of chocolates seemed like an enormous challenge. Cards from the 3 above sets are common to hunt down, but Darby singles seem quite elusive. This set also had a larger 50 card checklist, although the Benjamin guide lists that 19 of the 50 titles are known and no new info from the NSB. Back in the day, if you were fortunate enough to have all 50 cards, you still had to solve the 50 puzzles, then mail them in to claim your one pound box of Darby's Fine Chocolates. I think it's safe to assume they didn't send out many boxes!

A spectacular post Richard, sorry I didn't notice it first time around. I do have one of these cards, but don't have a scan handy. Mine shows the letter "U" and the riddle is "What piece of furniture?". The "U" has a bee on one side and a kid rowing a boat on the other...I'll let board detectives answer the riddle for themselves. Mine was the only one I had seen (other than the one in Benjamin's guide) until you posted yours.

Dan: That scan is mine, thanks for finding it. Tom, I think Dan McKee got his handle from the E271 Darby's Chocolate baseball cards (made by the same company as these but much earlier).
