does anyone besides me think those cards look Terrible in psa holders? can't beat the form fitting black inserts from SGC, i know any colorful card looks alot better with sgc holders.

You can often lightly tap the holder on one side or the other to straighten and center the card. It's a small pain and I agree that it shouldn't be necessary though.

For the record, I didn't have these graded; I simply bought them that way. I don't like them in the PSA cases at all, but I won't free them from their prisons either. Honestly I don't grade cards as I have no intention of ever selling any of them (I'd rather spend the money on more cards). These cards don't sit well in pages (regardless of number of pockets) either. Does anyone have any display suggestions or experience with this size card that doesn't involve sending them away and dropping $5 per card (which might not apply here anyway as I'm not sure that they would use a standard size filler)?
Sorry if this thread has been hijacked, I only wanted to show them as a January pickup.

Had crazy buys today and just finished going through box lot of over 400 cards, along with some other buys.
Mostly vg+/ex cards, but adding more sets to want list as picked up:
42 N126 (Rulers)
19 N133 (states)
23 T37 (Autos)
60 T51 (College)
47 T53 (Cowboys)
77 T57 (Fables) but hopefully finished as had started at last Philly show
Also had set of 60 Minerals (image below) from Coffee company. My ACC is buried somewhere, anyone happen to know what set this is?
Also wondering if this card is 'unused' N78 card. Doesn't have fold line or staple holes.

Amazing just discussing this on the OK what is it thread....when it rains it pours.... Just sold my set of booklets so I guess I don't have to have the 2 variations. Amazed I hadn't seen one before..... I'm content with the album as a lone example of the series (and the handbook that goes with it so I can read the history if life goes bad One day I'll replace the Grant and Lee along with their large HLC cards sold last year on FeeBay. Kinda miss 'em but can't keep it all. Maybe I'll get the banner one day (I suppose after I win the state's first powerball on Wednesday). I guess if that happened I'd get the banner for the round album and the ginter champions as well, and get rid of all my lower end er ah um crap....kidding of course! Long live our hobby - and please lord keep our own Dan going forever like dat damn wabbit......

I almost forgot my best pickup of the year so far!! I won a pair of cotton/linen label sets and a single example. The chromolithography on these is amazing. I have seen a couple of baseball ones and the seller listed one of those as well. The major problem with these is that the population is generally only known to a select few. The artwork and artistry might be superb - but finding a price point at which to purchase is tricky. I would say this is the same with caddie/crate/caddy labels, cigar labels and bands, and basically any paper ephemeral item that was a warehouse type find. Nevertheless - I bought these three lots. I will enjoy them no matter how much they end up going for in the open market - like usual I just hope I don't lose a lot of money on too many things. They didn't cost that much so there's no real downside. If you got sumptin sumptin to trade for one of the General Grant/Lee ones - drop me a line They're worth more than I paid at the moment as I haven't gone to sell them
with dust cover - I have one in my collection. Now as to original - your copy is indeed an original copy of the original For the "run" I am missing both 1939 copies - the mimeo and printed versions.... I AM ALWAYS IN THE MARKET FOR THOSE 2...... Just FYI - there is a 1940's edition as well as 2 from the 1950's....... I think our own esteemed Dan (luminaries often are know by a single name) posted a copy of his(?) 1939 printed with cover .... very jealous.

These cards were found in the last month or so at Antique shops & malls
Chuck - these Yum Yum Coupons look different than those I remember you had pictured on Todd's site.
I think these are E244s
Todd, I really enjoyed having access to your online non-sport guide! Didn't see some of these cards pictured above - feel free to add them if appropriate.

Thanks for showing these Greg. I do need to show the Yum Yum coupon card variation and also the E244s!!!
Unrelated: A while back you sent some N317 Mayo actress pics - any chance of getting them again. They were too small or else I messed up while downloading them???
Thanks.

the thread on these Topps inserts last year - know this was mentioned - thought you had it - maybe you just expressed the desire? Glad you reached happy ending . Nudder example of to each their own - I think it a kitchey take on a collectible - a paws that refreshes. To me the collector is creating the view for us of their perceptions. It may say you're a bit off kilter to some - to me it just makes you a collector.....

...my own dogs are more than twice the size of "Diamond Jim" on this collectible...any of their pawprints would totally obliterate this card
...believe it or not, the card comes with Topps' certification, hologram, and a serial number on the back...
...hope all can forgive my posting this on a vintage board...it's been a long quest to find the right example of this card at the right price (almost a year), so couldn't resist showing it off...

Please don't roll your eyes at me, but does SGC etc. slab these large-sized premiums? I mostly ask for the permanent protection of a nice sealed case. For a nice chuckle, read the options for display on the back and just CRINGE!!!

Richard---I think those LR premiums are among the nicest ever given out---I was actually reading all the destructive ideas on the back when I scrolled down to notice your word "CRINGE"---I did more than chuckle, but was LOL----
I don't know why you need SGC---heck, just punch a few holes in that baby & paste it in an album for good measure!
By the way, do you have a sense for whether the blank backed premiums are easier/tougher, or were perhaps distributed differently?

Don, I'll have to plead ignorance here. I didn't know there were blanked-backed issues. Since I have only seen backs with texts (and after a long drought, 4 have been on ebay in the past couple weeks) I can only assume blank-backed premiums are rarer. Anybody care to add???

Richard, how big is it? Maybe http://www.bcwsupplies.com/ would have something that it would fit in? I love their stuff, seems like they've got a size for everything (no connection, just satisfied customer.)

Richard---I have one blank back premium (#1) which was among the first I ever saw. Many years ago Robert Foster tried to get me to trade it to another collector who supposedly had #'s 2 thru 5 all blank back & only needed #1 for a complete blank back set, but I have to say, I don't recall seeing many other blanks thru the years---anyone else?
I once heard some speculation that the blank backs were from some sort of calendar, but I always thought that unlikely, after all there are only 5 of them that I know of (altho they are intriguingly identified as "series A")
Do the "unmasked" versions of #1 come with both printed & blank backs?

All of the premiums are also available in the blank back version (got a set here).
Re the 'calendar' speculation, above, would gently suggest that we perhaps are mixing things up a little bit, with the R73 Indian Gum premiums? (Those were litho artwork, shared with calendars issued by the Great Northern & Western Railway. But I don't recall a calendar connection, previously, with the LR premiums and could be wrong, but . . . )
Also, interesting question re the masks. We'd need to get a good selection to compare and determine if they were stenciled-on or freehand-drawn. But holding the premium sideways, it is easy to see from difference in glossiness of the premium surface versus the mask that the mask ink was applied on top of the premium's finished surface.
Lastly: how many "unmasked" LR premiums are out there, in the hands of Forum members? (Sounds like something for our Data Custodian Richard L to count!) I'll start: I have one.

Here are some more cards I got for myself this month, since I am a chicken breeder in my spare time. They're not in fabulous shape, but fun for me and the kids to go through (I note that the "Gold-Laced Bantam" is actually a Golden Sebright, in today's terminology):
Also interesting to note that one of the most famous breeders of White Crested Black Polish today is Jan Brett, the writer and illustrator of children's books. We see her at shows regularly with her nice birds.

I was not confusing the calendar idea with IG premiums, but merely recalling an old tale, which I didn't give much credence to at the time (our old friend HJJ also felt the same)

Don, thanks for clarifying. I hadn't heard Jonesy's calendar speculation before. (Miss that guy! )
Todd - two good questions . . . I don't recall if my unmasked card is blank or text-back, will check.
Re availability, we won't really know until we do a count. (Did Chris Watson's census, which DID cover LR cards, also look into the premiums?) It does feel like there are more printed backs appearing on ebay, over time, but there aren't very many for either, so it's kinda tuff to venture a reliable guess.

Ralph,
The reason I wondered is personally I like the printed backs. Even if the blank backs were scarcer If I were persuing a set I would rather have the printed version.

Thanks for all the great info on these LR Premiums (and sorry if we've all hijacked the "Pickups" post). It's great to learn about the blank-backed issues. I didn't even know they existed, so if I would have seen one for sale I would have assumed forgery or otherwise and passed them by. Although, I must agree that I prefer the issues with text; they just feel more "complete." Again, thanks all.

It takes hours and hours of scanning junk and years of building up relationships with dealers who occasionally find something. I always get there early and always ask them if they have anything for me. Many will look for and save things just for me now. Most of the time I still come away with only a few things or nothing.
It's always fun and I have made many fun discoveries over the years.
