From this website: http://mothergoosesattic.youshouldreadmore.com/jvalues.html

Jig Star
by Spears

Each card includes an illustration of a person with their name printed at the bottom of the card which are quite clever plays on words. Some of the "characters" in addition to the "old maid" are: Miss Flirtina Fairytoe, the gypsy dancer; The fisherman, Mr. Piscator Catchnought who has hooked a cat, the Nurse Patience, Mrs. Dr Anna Tomey with a skull and a Doctor of Anatomy; Mr. Sam Hercules Amstrong, the stongman with the strong arm; Mr. Styon Driland who prefers to stay on dry land; Professor Fisticuff Smack the Boxer and Madame Dulcet Melodia Screech the singer among others.

There is one Old Maid card and 2 each of the other characters.

The list of characters are:
OLD MAID
MR. PISCATOR CATCHNOUGHT
MISS ATHLETA BYKE L.B.C.
MISS IDYLLA REEDING
MRS Dr. ANNA TOMEY
MARK GAZE ESQ.
MR. JACK SPINNER YARN R.N.
UNCLE BEN LOVECHILD
HERR HANS ZWEIBIER
MISS HYGAEA C DIPPER
MR SAM HERCULES ARMSTRONG
MR. VOLTAMPERE ELECTRICUS FADD
MR. PATSY PRATY POTHEEN
MC. BLAWBLASTIE OF THAT ILK
PROFESSOR FISTICUFF SMACK
MASTER PHIL TUBBY
MISS FLIRTINA FAIRYTOE
MADAM DULCET MELODIA SCREECH
ALEXANDER POMPEY SNOW ESQ
MR. STAYON DRILAND
SIR ADONIS CRACKSHOT FULBAGGE

There are 4 other cards in the pack which unfortunately are mising from my version. I know one of the characters is called Nurse Patience but I don't know the name of the other character. I have seen a photo of the card but the name was indecipherable, it was of a man holding a lower in a pot over a watering can, so presume it was something to do with gardeners.

My father had an antique card game called "Snap" that we used to play with when I was small and some of the pictures in that second group look very similar (with some differences) to the cards in the game. So, that might be a good place to look.
