....side note....in New England, where I picked up over 90%
of my 1947-48 Indian Gum cards, the numbers 49-96 were outnumbered
by the 1-48s....approximately three to one.....in my case....
so this lot was a MUST WIN for me.

. . . . that auction (not too long ago) of an entire display box full of unopened packs, for 1947 R773 Indian Gum? Seems to me it was only a couple years ago. I don't recall if it was in Mastro's or where, but whoever won them just took that treasure home and locked it away. I'd half expected slabbed complete sets in PSA8 or whatever to start turning up on the market, but didn't happen.
There was another collector, quite long ago, who used to advertise R73 and R773 Indian Gum sets in The Wrapper, issues back in the 1980s. He used to sell off complete sets of these and listed them in Mint condition. I acquired an R773 set from him and now wish I'd gotten more. Absolutely brilliant cards, must have come directly from packs, with corners that would cut your fingers when you handled them. Spectacular stuff. He was from somewhere up in New England, last name Dean. Recall this guy? Wonder if he is still sitting on stockpile of prime material, somewhere up there in the Northeast!

......and was given "first shot at IG cards" at the table of Dave Ledvaris
at the yearly Greater Boston Sports Collectors Show (Shriners Auditorium,
Wilmington, Mass, mid 80s-1999). Dave was more than willing to sell to me, but only
after Ralph's "New England" collector showed up to have "first dibs".
The fellow Ralph is talking about often came to the show with a full set
of his pristine 1947-48 set (to sell), but I never saw him sell IG 30s.
He certainly knew what he was doing (rare cards). We talked 2-3 times
at the concession stand area.
Marty Krim can elaborate on Dave. From what I remember, Dave had
"everything under the sun" in his collectible store (Rhode Island). I did run
into Dave, a few ago when he had a "collectible" table at Atlantic City.
As far as I am concerned, Dave was/is one of the most knowledgeable
guys around and I respected/admired him greatly(except for his IG selling
habit of course...hahaha)

Scott---I was the winning bidder. I had never seen an N167 Gypsy Queen before. If you have any others in the same or better condition I would be happy to buy them at the same price.
