I have some A&BC 1966 Batman cards from the Black Bat (series 1) set that have the text on the back in Dutch (the title on the back is in English). Does anyone know if there are similar sets with Dutch text for the Red Bat (A series) and Blue Bat (B series) sets?

Hello to All ,

Hi Bill , i'm not 100% positive but i think the 38 card Black Back Batman set is the only one with Dutch text . I might be wrong , it won't be the last time if i am .

Good Luck with your quests .

I am not sure about the other sets, but I have some of the "Riddler's Riddle" cards with Dutch text. A&BC also put out some sets in German and in French, though I have no idea how popular they were.
Ask people of a certain age in the UK about the likes of Civil War News and everyone remembers. Ask people from the Continent and you just get blank faces.

Hello to All ,

Hi Brian ,

Are the Riddlers Riddle cards part of the A&BC gum Batman series (or are they a sub set ) ? I can't find any reference to them in my Murrays book .

Cheers .

Batman sets A&BC

Murrays have a funny way of refering to the various A&BC sets.

There were 5, including 3 artwork sets with the card title contained respectively in a black bat, a red bat and a blue bat, which is the easiest way to refer to the sets. But Murrays in their wisdom refer to them as "Batman: Pink Back" (eh? what's wrong with the black bat?), Batman 1A-44A and Batman 1B-44B.

Then there is the TV series photographic set that is commonly known as Bat Latts, which they call "Batman (numbered on the front)".

Finally there is the film set, generally known as Riddler's Riddle, which they list as Batman: Black Back. Very confusing, especially because of the similarity of bat and back, but confusing only because Murrays make it so.

Brian and Mark, thank you for the responses.

I have an A&BC Guide Book issued by the London Cigarette Card Co that lists the Riddler set as also being issued in a "foreign language" and gives a sample of the text. This is the Dutch set.

However, the guide does not list the Black Bat set as being issued with Dutch text. That is why I asked about the Blue Bat and Red Bat sets.
