When I was typing "N" cards - one of my biggest problems was what example to keep of a given set - the rarest? - most aesthetically pleasing (back them there were occasional checklists but no VISUAL references like we have now in books and the gallery)? - cheapest (there were after all 600+ cards to chase at a minimum) - it seemed without end...... Then there were the availability issues - upgrades - and sometimes the price that was out of line with the cards actual significance. Some cards were just ugly. Mix in a grading element and whooo - boy. Stress happy.gif One good thing about typing before the internet was being exposed to a wide variety of styles and substance - that might serve as fodder for the next tangent. I think my collecting has now come near full circle - I'm sorta collecting while divesting - armed with more respect and knowledge - willing to concentrate on groupings over types to create my story. Realizing I can't find or keep it all has been cathartic - too much pressure collecting types.......

First, kudos to Alan, nice cards. Henry, I had the same issues with my quest to complete all the types from R1-R200. I was convinced at the beginning that I would succeed but eventually I realized that it was not going to happen in this lifetime. When I made that realization it was actually a great release. I did not have this phobia that if I didn't search eBay 3 times a day I was going to miss some obscure rarity listed in the wrong category. I actually got back to enjoying cards and enjoying life.

A Complete Type Collection

Thanks for the comments guys.

Let me just make it clear that I am not trying to put together a PSA type set that includes one of each type of R card. My type collection will include any card I'm interested in that I have the opportunity to get, but I have no interest in many of the R card sets. What the type collection allows me to do though is sample lots of sets that I am not currently collecting. Of course, since I'm totally addicted to collecting cards, it's highly probable that I will begin collecting some of them over time, especially since that has already happened.

Alan

Those are all very nice cards. I especially like the Stan Laurel. I wonder if anyone under thirty even knows who Stan Laurel was..

Collecting types are a lot of fun.... it's sort of like building a mini-museum of the sets one likes- a microcosm of the macrocosm.
