anyone else interested in this series? I have only seen 2 play cards on the box back, but since afraid to open the boxes can't be sure of the title---how many in the series & what are the titles?

I'm interested

Hi Don,

I am, of course, very interested in this (and all of the Novel Package series). Unfortunately I can't offer any additional information as to the set total (other than the obligatory "I'll bet that it's twelve"), or scans of other cards (front or back). Did you shrink wrap that box, or did you acquire it that way? Is there anything inside the box? I wonder if it was just added to make the box less fragile for storage.

I noticed an absence of some of the Novel series sets from the NSB (like the Super Circus set). Chris, if you are reading, do you have plans to add to the comprehensiveness of the NSB by adding more of the Novel sets?

I have four complete Novel boxes (I had five but traded away my King Arthur box many years ago).

Since I'm derailing this thread slightly, I'll say that I have been trying to accumulate information on the Novel Indian Chiefs set and have documented several cards having more than one numbered back for each front. The cards reverse text is identical, but found with two different numbers. I don't have enough information to offer anything comprehensive, but will post what I have in a separate thread later. Anyone else that is working on this set that could offer additional card scans, front and back, would be appreciated (thanks most recently to Todd Riley).

Lastly, if anyone is selling Novel cards or boxes, I'm buying, please contact me.

Daniel

Hi Daniel---I've mentioned the back variations before but haven't got any new info---I can document a few if that helps:
Indian Chiefs---card #3 Sitting Bull and also Crazy Horse
card #5 Tomahay and also Two Strike
I also have Two Strike as card#2 & Sitting Bull as cards 3 and 4----As i recall some minor print differences as well, but my notes are incomplete

Wild West series---card #1 Buffalo Bill also as Black Bart
card #3 Buffalo Bill--also as Kit Carson
I have Wild Bill Hickock as both card #2 & 6
I have Bat Masterson as cards # 4 & 5 (also I think some printing differences, not sure about textual changes, but will check when I get a chance

Here's my rough draft of the 50's Novel Candy Corp (only 1950's)

Daniel---found a couple examples of back variations:

[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

the Sitting Bull is interesting---has different color card stock white vs gray, one minor text difference ("the" name vs "his" name), and different paragraph lengths

the Two Strike card has paragraph difference

wonder if these reflect different issue dates or box types? I don't have much to go on, just few examples. Analogous varieties in the Wild West backs, but I couldn't find differences in other series (poss because I have such few dupes)

anyway, interested to see what you (& others) may have also

Great Don! Thanks for posting them.

I now have the following as my cumulative checklist for the Indian Chief series:

1. Spotted Tail (as listed in the NSB) and also Rain in the Face (Alan Winslow)
2. Two strike (Don Hayes)
3. Sitting Bull (me and Don) and also Crazy Horse (me and Don)
4. Sitting Bull (Don)
5. Two Strike (Don) and also Tomahay (Don)
6. Gall (NSB) and also Little Wolf (me)
7. ?
8. Little Crow (Benjamin books)
9. Dull Knife (Todd Riley)
10. Spotted Tail (me)
11. Little Wolf (me)
12. ?

That means that:
Spotted Tail can be found as 1 and 10
Two Strike can be found as 2 and 5
Sitting Bull can be found as 3 and 4
Little Wolf can be found as 6 and 11

I wonder if there are two of each number differentiated by the word exciting (as "ending in exciting" and ending in "excit"?

Here are a couple of mine:

Daniel and Alan---great posts--- a lot of new info to digest. I think the split "excit" goes along with the paragraph changes in the body of the text (& at least in the case of sitting bull also with minor text wording differences)

Tom----perhaps it's time to go thru this series one by one & make a checklist of known titles? Anyone interested?

Looks like we have a head start on the Indian Chiefs & the Wild West---here's my list of the WW:

1. Buffalo Bill (also Black Bart)
2. Wild Bill Hickock
3. Kit Carson (also Buffalo Bill)
4. Bat Masterson
5. Bat Masterson
6. Wild Bill Hickock (also Billy the Kid, per Marty K.)
7. General Custer
8. Jesse James
9.
10. Ed Masterson
11. Pat Shugrue
12. Burt Alvord
13. Billy Richardson
14. Milton Sharp
15. Pat Garrett
16. Clay Allison
17. Tom Smith
18. Capt. Burt Mossman
19. Capt. J.R.Hughes
20. Col. Charlie Goodknight
21. Tom Horn
22. Commodore Perry Owens
23. Capt. Harry Wheeler
24. Annie Oakley

I also have a card with Billy the Kid, but the # is obscured.

When I get a chance, will try to correlate the alternate numbers with cardboard color/text & # differences.

I have the #12 Burt Alvord from this series. What year were these produced and how rare are they? Any idea what mine may be worth? Not in the best condition....far from mint.
