Well, been real busy the last few months so haven't posted much. I guess it is about time to jump into the famous "Riley Flea Market Time Machine" for a little view of some recent pickups....
We'll start in the 1970's (well we had to start somewhere right? Hopefully there will be something here for everyone!)....
Here are some 70's era Official Drag Champs cards. I don't see these much especially in nice shape. This was a near set only missing "Sneaky Pete" (anyone out there have a nice one let me know!):
Now we'll cruise on back to the 1960's for a quick peek at some Civil War News Currency...
Now it's off to the 1950's for a brief stay...
Some generic traders still in the packs:
Some Quaker cards with mailers:
Braves of Indian Nations (need a #7 - anyone got one?):
Lionel Nabisco inserts:
A few misc. items:
Now we are off to the 1940's....
Some lovely ladies:
Now to the 1930's...
I hadn't seen this one before. A 1935 album and set of movie star cards (cards are thin paper - set of 26 - a varitable "Who's-Who" of 1930's Hollywood).
a few samples:
Anyone know who the last two pictured are?
(Check this out if you want to learn more about mr. Darro - bio)
Come candy box cards:
Anyone know what the bottom 2 Indians are from? The backs are blank and the edges are perforated like the other candy box cards. They are also the same size as the Sullivan card which makes me think it is by the same manufacturer - Comics Novelty Candy Corp (they all came from the same person).
Now lets head on back to our last stop - the 1890's...
That's it! End of the ride.

Not some rare thing, but a fine condition Horrors of War, #155. I'd give it an EX, even being a wee bit miscut. With most older sets, I am not fanatical about condition, but when you do get one, it is nice enough.

Including an E2 set from Legendary, splitting an N31 set with another board memeber from REA, couple low grade lots from BCB auctions that filled some 'E' holes and just got my last First Column Defender last night from a Wrapper ad.............#12
GREAT lot of N158 War Photos......down to 7 or 8 for this set. Will have some dupes for trading from this lot........
Great Lot with some tough types........
Couple of upgrades on Newsboy Cabinets
Yellow Kid #1
Last Pepsin Indian pin I needed to have the set of 6 in RED and BLUE (12 total) printing
Couple of Kis-Me E255 Tradesman cards........very tough.....
(3) E196 Necco Strange People cards from across the pond....
Lot of (5) Kinney Jocular Oculars.....very tough in any condition....
Uncatalogued Cracker Jack Slide card.....hunter & bear. LOVE these....probably 1910's era cards that must have been the precursor design for the 1960's Topps Push Pull cards. Not sure how many of these there are but I'm up to 2 now and have seen 2-3 other different ones. Anyone have an idea? Smaller than the 1960's Topps Push Pull cards.

I just recently got these two after being outbid on a Washington/Cherry Tree a while back. The competition for the 1910's Cracker Jack paper is pretty strong. I was happy to get them.

In the 1880's - there were many different styles of "mechanical" and specialty trade cards that moved, folded, or morphed. Here's a neat one that pre-dates the CJ one. It's for a popcorn treat but features a cigar smoking man - go figure
TOMMMMMMMMM
I have this one to trade for anything before I list it on ebay

What a coincidence to go along with the current Wrapper cover story. Had to outbid Ralph on this one(ouch). Ralph, if this happens to be the last one you need on a complete tabbed set, we'll work something out

Jon, you'll enjoy hearing this: about 15 years ago, there was a guy who sold entire Marhoefer airplane sets in The Wrapper -- he had a bunch, no shortage of these for sale -- and I while I don't recall the price, they weren't expensive.
The cards seemed a little 'greasy' though, as if coated for protection against the hot dogs with a little bit of vaseline or something. Quite weird.

Ridley's issued the rare Screen Snappy movie star cards and it was unknown if they were a candy company or not.
I was the only bidder at 9.99 on the lower two items, so one of us is crazy. Either I'm nuts for throwing my money away, or you guys are nuts for letting me steal these.
Edited for controversy.

I was watching those top two items Jim, nice pickups. Wasn't sure the Snow White piece was real because the pics were somewhat fuzzy, apparently it is. I have a few Balloon Gum items somewhere - nice wrappers if I remember correctly. Are you in CT by any chance? Ever make it to Papermania? I should bring some items up there for ya this Aug....

What always cracked me up about these is the notation - "DO NOT PUT ON WALLPAPER".
I wonder how many actually were (I bet the notice put an evil idea into many kid's minds).
I do know these were issued in Hot Dog Packages in the 1950's but have never been able to identify the brand. Do you know what brand of hot dogs they were issued in?

Jerry---the wallpaper comment is definitely LOL worthy! I got my first few of these stickers as part of a Capt. Gallant premium or membership kit of some kind---(If I could recall where I put it I might be able to say more)---there may have been more than one method of distribution (speculation on my part), but I know there are 8 cards/stickers to the set. If you have a good file of Hakes catalogs, go back couple years for an eye opener on what the set went for----(I thought the Superman collectors were the 800 lb gorillas of the world, but they haven't met the guys who collect these!)
Chuck--just missed your post, but Armours seems to ring a bell

Don - I know what these sell for. A few years ago I bought a lot of cards and six of the Foreign Legion stickers were in the group. Sold them to a collector in France for a hefty sum (Three times what I paid for the lot). One of my best Ebay buys.

Well, Don and Jerry, you have certainly tantalized re those Foreign Legion stickers . . . esp regarding value. Now, how about some numbers?
I actually have 6 of these, but only acquired as an afterthought, to augment a European-issued Foreign Legion set that I've been playing at building. Never really knew much of anything about the stickers, just liked how they looked ane liked the topic.
So . . . when you guys tell us stuff like (paraphrasing) "Holy Moses, these are pricey", do you mean $25 a card, $50 a card, $100 a card or what?

Jerry---please keep me in mind next time you turn up a busload of these stickers! I only need one more.
Ralph---I dropped out of the Hakes bidding when the cards reached $300 each (I know there was a premium on this lot because it was a seldom seen complete set)---anyway, at the 300 level i think I was the the 3rd underbidder---so IOW don't give yours away kids!

Ralph - Back in 2004 I bought a lot of cards, on Ebay, for $150.00. At the time I was just starting a HOW set and I bought the lot because it had 20 HOW cards in it that looked nice in the crappy seller scans. Did exceptionally well on those, one card graded PSA7, twelve PSA6 & the rest PSA5. Plus I got three WIA cards, two of which graded PSA6 & the other a PSA5. That got me started on a WIA set.
There were some other misc. cards in the group plus the Foreign Legion Stickers. I sold the group of six for $450.00 - which I thought was outstanding. Maybe the price I got wasn't that good after all. They were in EX+ condition.
Don - That was the only time in my life that I have owned those stickers. I've never seen them since.

There were a few of the known 9 drag strips (image in NSB) in pile I picked up. These 8 are different images, but also same size, blank backed and same card stock, so thinking might be more drag strip cards. Any one see these before? NSB has 9 images, but says 10 cards. Are any of these that 10th card? (NOTE: Tried to scan all, but image cut off on side)
