T11 Kink Series

Congrats to whoever won it, they are rarely offered for sale. I thought the offer on the back was very telling and interesting as it says the offer expires June 1st 1914. At that time, you could still get the S81 and L1 baseball silks and leathers, but not the T3s. It also notes that the super large "6 square feet" leathers could be had for 245 gift slips (#s 324-363 only) which included the Generals, Indians, Actors and Actresses and Animals and Cowboys. I thought it odd that the Animal and Cowboy series were issued in the LL (large leather) format only. I've seen large Generals, Indians, Actors and Actresses but never an Animal or Cowboy series, has anyone ever seen any of these? I thought it was a neat vintage tobacco card with some historical significance and was wondering other's thoughts about it.

edited to bold animals and cowboys

I've only seen a couple of these cards in all my years of collecting. They obviously weren't as popular as most of the other premiums offered by P. Lorillard. The silk and leather versions are equally hard to find.

There are a number of different backs found on various cards of this premium offer & many only show a portion of the items offered.

I have never seen the Animals or Cowboys, though I have seen a few of the other extra large (LL) premiums. I don't use the term rare very often but any of the LL's would be considered to be in that category. One coupon stated that it took 245 coupons to get one - not too many folks would save that many - most would just get some of the other items on the list.

I missed this auction - how much did it go for? Do you have a scan of the front?

I guess you remember the Starr Jones Dunn Wagner Downey Bush reference..... I'm reformed now and kink to me is turning on the light when I'm in the shower. I want to live long enough that people actually don't remember me or the things I've said and done. Tabula rasa.

(of course I just moved mine:-() and I need the silk I never get a shot at (wouldn't a matching # group be outrageous?1?)........... If I ever do get them - I'll make a nice framed display as I never have a chance at one of my favorite advertising pieces that features the coupons. silks, and leathers from this series. I've seen one complete, one possibly restored (both on the left coast now), and the one Terry Junior offered recently on eBay (distressed - but it was CHEAP). It's ALWAYS on my wish list along with the A&G indian banner (regretfully sold mine long ago). I'll try and post a pic if I can find it after my prior computer disaster.

unfortunately it wasn't from an unknown or unknowing seller and was properly listed along with it's ACC designation. Under the radar it might pop-up and sell for an opening bid - described as men in turbans paper coupon or sumptin like that. As it's only the second I've seen offered seperately - I took a plunge. For someone what wants one - I don't think a 600.00 price tag is too far off base. I think it will hold it's value well - and it looks nice in my accumulation of things that tell the story of cards and tobacco with stuff instead of verbage..........
