Are there any plans for this forum to go high tech?

Having just posted on this board(I don't post very often), I want to say how much I enjoy the traditional format of the board.

I hope there are no plans to adopt the format of the sports cards boards whioh in my opinion are not very attractive. I should add that 80% of people prefer the new format(excluding those who dropped out because they did not like it) so I am not disputing the process.

Jim

I do like the "old" board concept.

Searching the Gallery is difficult, I must admit. Many
times I was frustrated trying to find sets I knew were there.

Todd Riley's site has a fantastic setup, being able to search with
"keywords".

Searching old postings also has become easy for me....
not always the case. I am able to grab images and information
posted months ago that allows for webpage additions

Hello to All ,

Is Todds site open yet ?

I've often thought what a great ' shop ' doorway the site would make .

I agree, this is my favorite format as well.

my two cents...

...I prefer the format we have, here in the non-sports area...although I didn't post, I used to enjoy looking at the baseball/sports side occasionally...now, it's too distracting and unwieldy to navigate comfortably (like, having to go through a series of pages to read a progression of conversation)...I'm sure that many people appreciate the special features available in the new mode, but I'm happier with "simple"...

our hand is forced by Network 54. Businesses come and go. Hopefully they'll stay around a long time. The new BB board is just different and it works. Fortunately, we don't have as much of the troll issues they do and we're hanging tight as is for now!

Thanks Tom--have to agree with bbigelow that it is distracting, visually unappealing etc--hard to even read. Agree on the trolls issue-glad that is not an issue here.

From a design standpoint, the vintage baseball side is cluttered and difficult to navigate. There's a feeling of slight annoyance perusing the pages there, so I've backed off a bit. No offense to Leon and the crew who have put in countless hours during the transition - they mean well, this is just my opinion. The non-sports forum is simplistic yet effective - images pop off the page when posted due to a lack of major distractions such as overzealous emoticon use and lengthy end quotes. Viewing an entire posting on one page is key for me as well - I just wish there was a permanent image hosting solution we could all use so images wouldn't disappear after a few weeks...obviously besides finding our own hosting.

"Viewing an entire posting on one page is key for me as well - I just wish there was a permanent image hosting solution we could all use so images wouldn't disappear after a few weeks...obviously besides finding our own hosting."

1. Viewing an entire posting on one page- The new baseball board is actually adjustable. You can set your preferences in the User CP (Control Panel) to show 5 postings per page, up to a maximum of (if I remember correctly) 80 posts per page. Most threads never get anywhere close to 80 posts.

2. Image posting- The new baseball board is far easier than anything else, but using Photobucket is free, easy, flexible, and, did I mention, free? Photobucket also offers an additional feature. It's free back-up storage for any images you have. Should your hard drive crash, those images are not lost.

As far as the new baseball board goes, I'm more of a reactionary, Luddite, type than most. Basically, I hate change, but it's really easy to use and not at all hard to adapt to. It's not more complicated. It's just different.

Edited to add- The options available for number of posts per page are actually 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, or 80. The more posts you select, the longer it takes to load the page, but if you have decent high speed internet, you'll never notice the difference.

The baseball board isn't near as interesting without Jim and Bruce posting. Maybe Leon should walk them thru the new procedures.

Bruce is registered, just doesn't seem to post much.

Jim, you can speak for yourself here, but I know you initially registered when they first switched. Did you not re-register when they had to have us all do it again?

Jim VB,

I never signed up-- tried initially and couldn't figure out how to do it. I posted on the old board until the end and wished everyone well. Not a high tech guy and could care less about the different features the board just seems so visually unappealing.

Cheers.

I tend to agree with Brian (Hi Brian). I prefer the format we have, here in the non-sports area too I'm familiar with the format of the new Net54 BB board as some other forums (ie autograph forum) uses that type of format. I agree it's too distracting. I was hoping they would use this format below, which I really like.

I'm sure that many people appreciate the special features available in the new Net54 board, but I'm happier with "simple" too.

P.S.
Jim - I hope you can attend the PSA luncheon at the National.
