A variation in the T99 set

From Chuck's post regarding multiple sets, I mentioned a variation I just came across this morning. Not wanting to hijack Chuck's thread, I figured I'd post it here and anybody interested can view and/or comment. As I mentioned, it isn't earth-shaking, nor will it cure the economy, but I like to share these things when I come across them.

This might be called the "title-left" variation to the standard "title-right".

Thanks for posting this variation! I know there are many such variations due to the vagaries of the printing/production process for tobacco cars but until you get two or of the same subject to do the comparison it's hard to find them. It's great when someone has the attention to detail to notice such things.

You have to assume.......

(and that can be dangerous) that depending on the printing process, there should be other cards from the same set with the title shift as this wouldn't be the only card on a sheet obviously and the red pass for this pushed it to the left. Really interesting.....thanks for illuminating us Mark!

There should be additional cards that have this same variation. I've been looking at Arm & Hammer cards for at least 20 years & have seen just one of these:

Of the 8 copies I have....

....they are all Pan Handle Scrap backs, factory 10, 5th district. Half of them have the secondary ad for Royal Bengal Little Cigars. So the back of the variation is the same as 3 other copies I have with the standard right title.

That's really cool Mark, thanks for posting. I also like all the other variations that have been posted. On yours Mark, it looks to me like there are more than one variation of this card. I would guess the fourth one down was the first version of this card with the title through the spire. Then it looks like they fixed it by removing the top part of the spire (cards 3, 5, 6). Then they removed more of the spire (cards 1, 2). Then they just moved the title. That's my guess about what happened with this card.

Finn's right.

Hey Mark , just checked my sets and sadly did not find that variation.
What series is your "error" on? Card #? (if you want to share)

....Great eye! Amazing there would be such attention paid to such a small detail, but this is one of the neater T card sets. One of my favorite cards is the London Bridge - the card is nice, but heavily magnified, it really comes to life.

As for what series or number, I'm not sure to what is being referred. There is only one series of these cards and they are unnumbered. I'll be happy to share anything I can about my cards, but I don't understand the question (sorry; I'm a little slow in the mornings these days happy.gif

Hi Mark,

My question was aimed at Finn and the Church & Dwight cards he showed.

Sorry bout that.

BTW, what is your icon? what issue of LIFE is this?
