Have a look at the picture in this ebay auction featuring a Detective badge . . . when I saw it, it looked familiar. Looks just like Mark's Fleer Cops n Robbers badge, but with different engraving at the bottom.

This one was for Post cereal. No idea of what the connection might be to Fleer CNR Gum.

There are a couple others kicking about...junior g-man, detective sargent, sp,
a small spurt of premium badges circa 1940.

Jim, are those other badges you mentioned the same as this 'detective badge' format?
(Mark's CNR badge is identical, only with different words engraved)

There are many different badge premiums available on eBay, and they come in different sizes, shapes, colors. But were there also badge standard templates that multiple companies like Fleer and Post could customize and then issue on their own?

These two 1932-3 Post Cereal "junior detective corps" badges, shown below, currently available on ebay, look to me to be almost the exact same badge as Mark's unique Fleet Cops/Robbers gum badge, shown above, just with different words at the bottom. Also, the word Detective is arc'ed on Mark's badge, straight on these:

The Post badges are all the same format with an additional star added with rank.
Detective sergeant has two stars, lieutenant three....Backs are the same with soldered pin. I think they were associated with melvin purvis junior g-men. Melvin was the FBI man that caight most of the gangsters, although television led us to believe it was Eliot Ness.

Thanks, Jim, much appreciated.

So . . . what do you make of that CNR badge?

I think you and I were both underbidders on that item, so clearly we were both intrigued enough to put up, rather than shut up!
But now that I am seeing more of the Post badges on eBay, they clearly have a different finish and older appearance, patina.

Ralph
I am very happy with my badge.
And I think Fleer produced many things yet undiscovered.

Jim, wow, offbeat piece . . . !

Obit from the Pennsylvania Gazette:

- Louis W. Mahle, ChE'18, Ambler, Pa., inventor of the chewing gum, Chiclets; February 13, at the age of 101 years. As director of product research for the Frank H. Fleer Corp., the Philadelphia maker of Double Bubble gum, he invented the gum, naming it after an ingredient from the chicle tree. He was a charter member of the Institute of Food Technologists. And he wrote articles about chewing gum for various encyclopedias, including Encyclopaedia Brittanica. In 1961, he appeared on the television program, What's My Line?, and stumped the panel as they could not imagine that such a distinguished-looking man was in the chewing-gum business.

- Re "Knights of Pythagoras", Google mainly dredging up stuff with African American high school students in the northeast. Appears to be a youth activity with some kind of association to Freemasonry.

So my question is:

How do the grading companies handle the evidence card?
If they grade cards without the evidence tab, can the grade cards with them?

Wasn't that most recent Cops and Robbers card with tab on Ebay graded? I thought it was #16 in Dan's gallery, but I could be mistaken - went for $300+? And continuing with that thought, would they grade the evidence tabs separately?
