SGC Grading Special Ends

I'm surprised that this hasn't been brought up before now. The SGC Grading special from last year was extended until June 30th, 2009. So that gives interested, procrastinating collectors this weekend to prepare a submittal.

I was thinking about that Eric. If I read their fee schedule correctly, it would probably be wise for a collector to have graded any card worth more than $250.

when i first started to collect for some strange reason i decided i liked the 1933 goudey baseball set (#144 Ruth got me hooked) i didnt know anything about grading, counterfeit cards, trimming, ect, ect. i only understood PSA because so many cards were offered for sale in their holders. i was buying goudeys in GAI, SGC, PSA and raw. i found myself buying the GAI and SGC cards at the time (5 years ago) more often as they were selling cheaper than what SMR had them listed for. again, this was my first beginning in the hobby in the new era of slabbing.

after i accumulated 100 or so cards, i was informed of the registry. when i looked it up, i thought it was fantastic. i also looked up SGC's site as well. of course PSA was light years ahead at the time. i spoke to both companies about determining who to go with for my raw and crossover submissions. two things really made my decision... 1. i thought the colors of the cards really popped in the SGC holder and made an average looking card look so much better. the PSA holder just washed out the cards colors. 2. price and ease of submissions. no club fee to join, the prices SGC were charging was less than PSA and it seemed the submission process was alot less cumbersome.

after 5 years, i never looked back. it was a great decision for me and my collecting habits.

Things are never simple. Here is a partial list of cards NOT included in their special.

Mark, you should probably email or call them.

Hello to All ,

Hi Jim ,

Mail sent , i notice they mention Canadian shipping but no mention of worldwide .

I would think that if they did ship WW that it would be mentioned on the site . Lets hope they do .

Helo to All ,

Fair play , SGC are quick to reply .

Hi. Yes, we can ship to the UK, and we do accept submissions from the UK.

Shipping internationally is through FedEx or through the US Postal Service. Unfortunately, if your cards are valued over $42.00 (Limit for Registered Mail), than FedEx or Postal Service Expedited shipping are the only options where we can track the order.

Please let me know what you would be sending, the values of the cards for the purposes of grading fees, and if you have a preference for shipping either of the above ways. I can then quote you an approximate price for shipping.

i had no idea about PSA crossover for $3.50. To me this is not a special but a HUGE PLEA FOR HELP $3.50 at a time. Their year end is June 30th. Psa is scrambling to bump the sales line up.

one thing i can say after 5 years with SGC is that crossover pricing has never slowed me from sending in cards for my set. i am sure PSA wasnt slow to recieve crossovers from their collectors to improve sets. i collect higher graded cards, psa has the most amount for sale, so i have to buy a psa card in order to upgrade my set, i am extremely careful though as i have been burned many times for cards not deserving the given grade (psa).

anyhow, in my opinion, things are looking very bright for SGC, PSA not so much.

Hi Guys,

Procrastinators of the non-sports world can breath a little easier now. I saw this thread and wanted to announce (a little early) that we're continuing the non-sports special until the end of 2009. The response has been tremendous--new collectors and dealers are using SGC for their cards, our registry has grown by leaps and bounds in the non-sports arena, and overall the response has been nothing but positive.

Anyone interested in grading with SGC who might need some more information, please feel free to drop me an e-mail or give me a phone call.

I hope to see many more submissions come in from the collectors on this board. We appreciate your support!

Thanks,

Brian Dwyer

Brian,

Thanks. The only other thing I can add is.....if you planned to extend from the beginning, brilliant business move!

What exactly does SGC grade? Their website isn't clear. Is it strictly cards? Suppose I wanted to have a type set graded? Do they grade wrappers, premiums, boxes? thanks anyone

Hi Jim,

At this time we are just grading and encapsulating cards. We don't do packs, wrappers, or boxes.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you,
