OK, so there's no real controversy, I just made it up to attract attention---however, since Dan is going to all the trouble to create an R52 page with checklist, I thought we might be able to verify what the 50 countries on the checklist should be.


In Benj image of the uncut sheets there are 50 diff. cards pictured, & the checklist shows 50 diff titles, with Nicaragua alleged to have 2 poses, one with a flag, the other with a bowl, bowl as follows, seen in Benj top sheet lower central

When going thru the uncut sheet where is the other Nicaragua pose?


Now look at card 29, Guatemala (which is NOT on the checklist, but is located at the top central position of the top uncut sheet)

why is Guatemala NOT on the checklist?


now look at a generic back from a card which clearly has the Guatemala flag

as you can see, it is mis-labeled as Nicaragua on the back, but the flag is actually Guatemala ---for the 50's fans I am using Topps FOW as my gold standard of flag identity---


so here's my question in 2 parts:--first, does anyone have a correct Nicaragua flag where the girl is holding the flag & not the bowl? (I'll accept any of the issues---Kennys coffee, Bakery issues, blank back, generic back or true Flag Gum back)


part two: is it possible that whoever made the first checklist in Benj worked the list up from the back of a sheet that had the error of a front Guat. flag coupled with a Nicaragua back?


NSB doesn't show a complete list under the flag gum heading, but it does show a list similar to Benj under the Kenny coffee byline---Chris---can you verify a true Nicaragua holding the flag card?

Personally, I would have Mark check his G-Men cards for the missing bowl.

I don't have any cards (either the Flag Gum issue, nor the Kenny's Coffee) that depict either Guatamala or Nicaragua to make any comparisons, but your observation is the kind of information that I like to note in future editions of the NSB. It wouldn't surprise me if Benjamin's checklist was created from a "non-R52" sheet...one that might very well have the two Nicaragua variations (one of which was obviously changed to reflect Guatamala when the Baltimore Chewing Gum company reused the artwork (I always figured that the Kenny Coffee set preceded it). Probably the only way to confirm the assumption would be to find both cards with either the Kenny's Coffee or "generic" back...I thought I rememeber a Kenny's Coffee set selling via auction in the last 5 years...anyone here acquire it?

Don, I find this kind of stuff fascinating so I hope you'll revive the images. Sorry I did not respond earlier as I was on a short vacation with my kids and just missed it when I got back. Great analysis.

As a matter-of-fact - we have been trying to get a checklist of all 50 numbered cards for our database. Can anybody help?
