Guys, I know there has been posts prior to this one on the same subject however, I would like to pose a few questions and see what type of feedback we can stir up....
On the back of card number 33 The Overland Mail, it states "In the 50's and early 60's the rush to the mines.....", wouldn't it state 1850's and early 1860's if it was indeed the 1900's? It seems to me that this is writen in the present tense of the 1800's.
And on the back of card #18, it quotes Emerson Hough, the writer of The Cowboy Story writen 1897, quoting a current book might lend some credibility to the date. How sure are we that the date is 1909 to 1912?
Hamilton Gum Cowboy Series, now I can't comment on the Ganong issue but this Hamilton release had to be in the 1950's, I once saw a wrapper from Hamilton Chewing Gum call Cowboy Gum and it had two cowboys talking and mentioned "Tug Bailey" which was a charactor in a 1950 production of Rider From Tucon, also this wrapper had 2 cents on it, the only other time I saw 2 cents on a Canadian box was the Hopalong Cassidy issue of the 1950's....
Maybe I am completely wrong and off my rocker but any input would be greatly appreciated, this is how we keep our hobby a true and healthy one.

Bobby, you might certainly be right that the date is incorrect, but to play devil's advocate (prefaced by the comment that I know almost nothing about this set): I think that referring to the "50's and 60's" doesn't necessarily mean the comment was made in the 1800's. People were still referring to the "gay 90's" (i.e. 1890's) well into the twentieth century. If the comment was made in 1910 or so, I think most people would know to which decades they were referring. Also, the backs of these cards sure look a lot like the T202 Hassan triple folders which came out in 1912. And including the factory number seemed to be a feature of cards in the T206 era but not earlier.

When people refer to the 60s now, everyone assumed you mean the 1960s ... even though we're in the 21st century. So I think that text is pretty normal.
Someone with more knowledge than me (like Bob F.) of the ATC monopoly and brands can probably help here, but I'm pretty sure 1910 or so is likely accurate for this Hassan issue. The lithography and style is similar to other T* issues of the time, and the card size is more similar to other T* cards than older N* cards.

Wow, those are incredible pieces of history. Interesting how they came from the "Kinney Bros branch" of the ATC. It fascinates me how some pre-monopoly brands stayed intact, while others disappeared.

Alan - about the Lighthouse series - see new thread.
Dan - I have some and will have more in the database eventually. We are trying to get on a new faster server and once that is done I will do another free preview.
