Just a headsup note. There will be a unique twist to this year's National Sports Collectors Convention. If you plan on attending, you might want to stop by the corporate area and check out "In the Game" Corporate setup. They plan on displaying a remarkable continuation series of the 1956 Scoop set. The set appears to be identical in all aspect of originality, including wrapper, box, and card art.
We get advanced info from all our corporate sponsors and I thought this might be of interest to any of you who are going to the show. Personally, I am delighted to see some non sport activity taking place, it's long overdue. Might be fun to travel back 53 years and have another chance at a time warp.
Hope to see many of you at the show. Please try to stop and say hi, if you get a moment. I would enjoy seeing everyone.
Regards,
Mike Berkus

Who do we talk to get them to actually PUBLISH this lost series? If they don't want to, Monsterwax would certainly be interested (although we have another classic gem to finish first.)

I forwarded your email to them. Wish I knew a bit more at this time. With my passion for non sport overridding sports issues now, this really sounded neat. What I wouldn't give to Twilight Zone a trip back to Larry's Milk Store in St. Paul for one more pass at the candy counter. One of the subjects we always had fun with on our Sporting News radio show each week was "where was your little candy store located"?

Mike

OOP, my mistake, the Scoop display will be at Creative Cardboard Concepts Distribution Booth 1241 at the National. It appears the response was more than I had expected. Thanks for the phone calls and emails, some prototypes will be given out but in very limited quantities. Again, not sure of the details but I know the display will be there. See you at the National.

So were these cards Topps painted for a 3rd series that were never published, or a retro set someone put together recently but made look old? I'd sure like to find out more for a Wrapper article, if nothing else.

If they went through all the effort to paint up new cards and design a box and all, it seems crazy that they save just a few bucks and a little more effort by not publishing them. That's like someone going to medical school for years and years but not taking their finals in the last semester. At least they could have recapped some of their expense doing a limited edition or something. In a hobby so starved for original art and creativity, it really seems a shame.
