it is one big hunk (11x9x3) of Bavarian limestone. this is what was used (bigger ones mostly) to make the N cards and other ephemera we all love.

wonder if it broke in the press and was put aside? unfortunately it cannot relate the story to me.

these were reused over and over again, literally for thousands of jobs. still can buy them today new in this and larger sizes. kind of fun.

These stones are great when you can find them, a real piece of our history !! Love it!

I think I posted this article that I wrote for Beckett a while back on the printing stone find of the C56 hockey and C60 Lacrosse.

In on this one with details of the stone he picked up from Glenn Mechanic at the National. I just didn't have the dough or I would have bought it but it had the litho on it for the Colgan's Gum tins that held the baseball cards from the 1910's. It was absoutely fantastic!!!!! About 40 pounds I think. Double-sided I think. Neat stuff and you'd think there would be a few of them around since they're not exactly fodder for the dumpster. Maybe they were destroyed by cracking them up and then spread across gardens since they are limestone.....

I know some stones are in driveways in Canada, betcha the other sides have some rare printings on them but its hard to start taking up someones driveway without them calling the cops.

I've always had a theory the T206 stones are being used as driveway pavers somewhere in upstate NY, although in an unfortunate reality I'm sure they were buffed and reused as soon as printing halted.

I picked this one up a year ago or so - used to print the boxes for Victor Baseballs, adopted by the Pacific Coast League, Southern League, and was the official ball of the short-lived Federal League of 1914-15. You can see where they utilized all available space - front and back. Probably weighs close to 40lbs.
