why you would be outing this item? Is it yours? I have been following it for the past 2 months. It's on my very short list..... If it's yours or you had some sort of question about it - I can understand but otherwise ..........

just would have preferred something like this to come out AFTER the auction. It's an auction company that is well known - but not really to those in the NS arena except in an advertising venue. I had to sell mine 12 years ago (Robert Edwards Auction) as it was the best one of 3 banners I was sold in a lot - out of my range (still is actually) and my collecting habits were quite a bit less sophisticated. I'm looking for the turkish trophy advertising piece with the silk, leather, and premium card btw if you've seen one coming up.... .

My Indian banner and my Pirate banner wound up
in the hands of a "collectible buyer/seller".
-----read on-----
================================================
I posted this info before....that after selling two
banners for my daughter's wedding expenses, I saw
the above dealer selling repros of each of the
banners at a Massachusetts flea market...
(I have searched my brain and cannot remember the
price, but I feel it was 400.00)
The repro banners were lacking the top and bottom
"metal" strip. My memory seems to recall five of
each.....yes, at least five....scary....
Ron Oser had an Indian banner in his auctions years ago, no
evidence of having strips. I sent email saying to
be very careful. The reply was that it was definately
original.
I also see that Mike Pratt has posted that he owns
a repro Indian banner.
....bottom line....buyer, do your homework anytime
you see a Pirate or Indian banner.....

people were trying to fake banners...... Not surprised though. Nearly impossible to recreate a banner and fool anyone IN PERSON what doesn't know. Heritage also with the indian banner last night. Anyone know what it sold for or have the link?

Was surprised on reading the text at the auction house link, though, as to the extent of restoration work on this item. Paper tape on the back, sealing up some tears (one of them 8" long!), and COLOR TOUCH-UP work done on the front where those tears were, I suppose to hide the surgery.
If this work was really well done -- and it IS clearly being disclosed -- then I have no issue with it, per se. Willing buyer/seller and a nice item being handed over. But still . . . how acceptable is this type of improvement work?
As we all know, in the world of art, the concept of restoration is totally accepted, whereas in card collecting it is generally seen as equating with some level of fraud or at least the enabling of same.
