Jerry and Rand, way to go, guys!

Jer, that 110/288 is extraordinary.

And Rand, just one new SR High is a job well done . . . but to snag them as triplets? Jeez.

Tom, I don't do E cards (yet), but that one would be worth taking the plunge, no questions asked! Price?

Well the price was somewhere between what Todd paid for it and what the one in Legendary Auctions went for a couple auctions ago.............

Actually, I think Todd just found one for a little of nothing and the one in Legendary auctions included a beautiful graphic envelope that it was sent in and a complete set of the (8) strips which were inserted in the boxes of licorice pastilles that Henry Heide put out. The lot with the page, strips & envelope sold for north of about $2000 I believe (just checked.......$2725). I got this one for $188.50. My snipe was quite a bit higher than that. I have one of the pasteboard small boxes that the candy came in for the set and I have (4) of the eight individual strips that comprise the set. Just need to find the rest! They sell for $50-$100 usually in decent condition. TOUGH to find though.

Some notes about the Hall of Fame for Great Americans from an as-yet-to-be-published book about E cards..............

The E171 Hall of Fame for Great Americans set is an interesting set issued by Henry Heides Candies of New York. Unlike their E170 Army Uniforms set, the Hall of Fame for Great Americans set is a strip set that was folded in the middle that contains either 4 subjects (type A) or 8 subjects (type B). Great Americans from the set include Inventors, Presidents and other Americans famous for their achievements throughout the history of our country. Seven of the eight strips in the set contain 4 subjects and the 8th strip contains George Washington and the hall of fame building. Containing fantastic lithography, the 4 person strips are difficult to find. It is believed that the 8 person blocks are cut from the actual full sheet shown on the preceding page. The backs of the cards contain birth and death information for the subject on the front as well as accomplishments of the person pictured.

The Hall of Fame for Great Americans is located on the grounds of the Bronx Community College of the City University of New York. It was commissioned by Chancellor Henry Mitchell MacCracken and completed in 1900 as part of the original New York University and formally dedicated on May 30, 1901. All 29 inductees in the inaugural class of 1900 for the Hall of Fame are included in the E171 Heides set. Further classes were inducted every five years through 1970 and then 1973 and 1976. Due to lack of funding and interest, only 98 busts were commissioned of the 102 people elected for enshrinement. There have been no elections since 1976. The Hall of Fame has undergone renovations a number of times within the years following the last election in 1976. Given the information above, and since all 29 inductees from the 1900 class are included in the E171 set, it is entirely likely that the set was issued sometime in the 1900-1901 time frame or definitely before the 1905 election of 8 additional subjects.

I picked this up recently and only wish Prof Piccard could come save my beautiful Florida Panhandle beach from the oil! I don't collect Scoops, so if you are interested in adding Mr. Piccard to your collection let me know...otherwise I may throw him off the pier and pray for a miracle...

Take Care,
Geno

Probably not a widely collected series - but it's the last card I needed to complete a fairly tough varient set (DS101):
